happy 2017 and ... welcome to the board.
since you provided no sense of what you already have or your planned use, i will have to speak in broad strokes only.
1. get the car in good shape first ... maintenance, tuneup, etc.
2. modifications should start with a comprehensive exhaust SYSTEM.
3. you can go with a Weber ... OR ... learn to modify the Nikki. there is pretty good info and support for both paths and either way, you will have A LOT of reading to do. if you go Weber, i would advise staying away from twin systems, but obviously i can't stop you if that's what you choose. that said ... over the years, i have come full circle and have become a strong supporter of modified Nikkis.
two more things:
1. you mentioned "good price" - that needs to be defined by you. carbies can get expensive quick depending on what you get and what you plan to do. in addition to jets, venturis and such, you should probably get some sort of way to measure your progress. it seems silly not to use something in 2017 (just an opinion) - especially if this is all new to you.
2. you said you're "not sure where to go from there" - reading! you don't necessarily need to buy books on the subject, but getting a firm grasp on how carburetors work will go a long way in helping you figure out how to tune them.
