clearancing side seals...

clearancing side seals is a PITA- i'm using the "hand file" method rather than the grinding wheel approach

that is all

I think it's really cool you're learning how to do a rebuild. It doesn't make up for the trouble you've had with your engine, but it's something positive nevertheless.

thanks

yeah, and i've been getting coached by steve kan and rick engman

so i think i'm in good company

i tried to port myself, but i quickly realize that it's not something i want to experiment with (in the interest of getting my car on the road)

so i'm letting steve kan @ gotham racing do the port work....what size port? well that's a secret...but it's bigger than a large street port!

oh yeah, and i had rick engman (builds 4rotors for jim downing's lemans cars) press in the bearings for the rotors and stationary gears, he also polished the eccentric shaft, installed the pilot bearing, and lapped the irons....

new oil pan, pump, chain, thrust bearings, rotary aviation seals....and i have the peace of mind knowing that all of the stated items will be installed in the motor, whereas when you purchase a laundry list of "mods" in your motor from a company, you place a lot of trust (your life and your passenger's life) in that motor...

after seeing pics from this thread:

http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...ic=33569&st=25

i am glad i am doing this myself, and not running a re-rebuild

I've always loved the Rotary Engine Building and Porting forum on NP - a lot of knowledgable people there.

What Irons did you use? AS well as rotor housings?( I assume new rotor housings, but, are the irons from your pineapple motor or another spare engine you had laying around?) I have been thinking of sending my engine to steve and have some magic ports put in!,Then rebuild as you are.( It's been over 1 1/2 years since last movement) Keep us posted and some progress pics.( which I'm sure you'll have) Good job, And your quote at the bottom of your sig couldn't be more true!! Dave

my total seal kit pricing was $430.19+$168 (rotary aviation seals) + $100 for atkins 1piece corner seals/springs

so that's not too bad, considering....

steve's port pricing is VERY competititve, and the ports are proven!!

i'm also looking forward to letting him tune it

Ugh. That's just disgusting.

Who can you trust to do a good rebuild?
