Woah,,, anything above 15.5 volts can start frying things. If you saw a spike at 18.95 volts the alt's regulator is bad... running that high of voltage will eventually burn up everything electrical...

Both probably have it all for pretty cheap... maybe $200-$300.

Yeah, I am sorry I guess I wasn't clear... you need to remove the old solder and flow new solder in where the pins for the plug meet the board. It doesn't matter if the joints "look clean".
