your friend is an idiot. downshifting isn't bad for the motor. if you go from 5th to 2nd while doing a 100km/hr. then yes that would be bad for it.

yeah. the exhaust and cat are already ripped off my car. just debating to buy a mid pipe with restrictor plate or a high flow cat. since i do not have my waste gate ported.

the engine itself is not overheating. but the exhaust heat light turned on. which is a sensor on the cat that is set off if the cat goes passed 200 degrees. note this is a jdm rx7.

the ast tank can just be bypassed instead. i installed a new rad without the nipple on it. and i just eliminated the tank. check the faq and useful links for more information.
