My progress report
Hi Guys,
I have been reading alot of the posts here. WOW! I just need to say, after looking at what all has been said I'm amazed that any of us have a car running. I would like to list what I know from talking to alot of you personally on the phone. 1. I thanked Rob in NY for helping people on the forum and did this over the phone. I know that he tunes using the Haltech "staging bar" set up. I have seen the maps he has sent me. It works,I know this, alot of Haltech uses have done this for a long time. In one Rob's posts he mentioned that he was surprised that I was the head of Wolf, when I did not understand how staging works. I do quite well. By the way the formula that I beleive he posted is right. multiply the rpm by the load in the same cell. like this if at 4000 rpm the percent is 50 and at 71 load the percent is also 50, then multiply .50 by.50 the result is .125 that means that in that cell the secondaries are running at 12.5% of the primaries in the cell. I personally don't use the "staging bar" method. You might ask why? Because the transition is smoother. Stock EMS from the factory is alot like a the "staging bar" set up. When the secondaries came on line the car would somtimes bog or hesitate or buck if the injector drivers were going out and sometimes the motor would blow an apex. 2. The map that was sent from AU is fine for the car it came out of. I saw that there was not much staging of the secondaries and shared with the owner of the car that they are going lean. I based this on looking at the data log he sent me. At 7000 rpm 18-1 AFR is very, very bad. 3. The set up for the CAS in sync & ref mode is the 0,4,5 that people have mentioned. This is if the sensor is in the stock location. By the way I was the very first person to set up a second gen 24+2 with the new software. I did this while on the phone with AU. It was sent to me by WOLF for testing. 4. If anybody has a question about why I tune the way I do please call me. There are lots of ways to tune. Remember, what works for one might not for the other. wow 18:1 and no blowup? crazy..
actually if youve looked at any of my maps in the last few months, staging is all gradual. wolf cant really do a 'staging bar' type setup because of the interpolation. there will be a very lean and a very rich spot as it makes the transition from high ms and low/no secondaries, to low ms/more secondaries. so why is the offset 4 instead of 0? Is this so it can get a window to be able to fire the advance within that cycle? p.s. hows datalogging coming? Hi Guys
I have great news about datalogging. Wolf has signed a contract
with a software firm in AU. All the 3D graphs etc. will be released in 4 months. The datalogging will be completed also. The format will be the menu tree on the left, Guages on the right, the bottom half of the screen will be your map and the top half will be the 3D graph. It will work with everything you all have already as far as hardware. The data file will be able to send in an e-mail etc. etc. Chris |

Maybe this is why i didnt understand what nyt was getting at until i opened up the map and had another look...I must of deleted the wrong map... this map was only supposed to be revved to 3500-4000 as a runin map only... I did tell the person it was sent to to take it easy and to get it tuned asap... Again,i apologise...[the race map looks totally different] |
RLC - Did Wolf mention if the new data logging was supported on version 4 as well as version 4+?

well on an fd i can see the sync offset having to be set properly due to the fixed location of the pickups and trigger wheel.
on an fc trigger, since it can be turned, stock position may be 4. according to this document you can set it to anything if you adjust the CAS accordingly. since there are 12 teeth per 360 degrees of crank rotation in an fc cas, each increment of the offset should move your timing 40 degrees. I'll have to play with it on the next car i wire, currently im happy with my modified cas. I see a couple errors on starting because of the slow cas speed/low voltage but never any when running. |

I was going to write some standalone data logging for the Wolf because ther was none. I was actually going to make a "Automatic Tuner" based on the output of a wide band AFM/O2 sensor and relative load tables. The idea was to get a base map and start the car, warm it up then drive it lightly. The program would then change the map so that at light load it was 14.7:1 and at full load it would be 12.2:1. This would cut tuning times for the inexperienced. Once done Dyno tuning can clean it up! The problem is that I have no time to do this as I have so many other projects . Regards Michael Smith |
