Coolant Temps

Anyone else running an aftermarket gauge to monitor their coolant temps? or are you all relying on the reading provided by the wolf?

I was originally running my Wolf v3.1 which used a VDO coolant temp sensor tapped into my water pump housing about an inch away from the stock location.. When I upgraded to the Wolf V.4, I installed the included Bosch coolant temp sensor in place of the stock coolant sensor.. right away I noticed that the coolant temp readings I was now seeing were about 5-6 degrees higher right across the board.. I just attributed the temp diffrences due to the car running with a diffrent tune with the upgraded wolf .. however, I started to worry about my coolant temps, since they were now reading higher that i was comfortable with when on boost ..

I have since installed a new coolant gauge with the sensor tapped next to the wolf sensor .. according to my new gauge, my temps are showing 5-6 degrees cooler than what the wolf is showing ...

I am now thinking that the stock wolf coolant temp sensor calibration map is actually incorrect ... I'm thinking of just lowering the whole correction map down by 5 degrees...

can anyone else confirm that the wolf ensor reads high with the stock sensor calibration table?

the sensor that came with my wolf reads correct

Nyt, are you using the bosch 280 temp sensor? could you perhaps post up your calibration table for the sensor? thanks

Use my temp calibration table, (on one of my maps posted) and get a hold of an FD temp sensor (the green one)

should work to .25 deg C...... hope thats accurate enough for you :D

OK that make sense now when I updated from the V3 to V4 I used your temp calibration table (because I used your base map to start me off) Now My water temp was off. I have a VDO 150 Now it all makes sense.:rlaugh:

I fixed the table for my VDO 150 the thing that made the alarm bells ring was first thing in the morning my engine was 35deg C and the air temp was 15 deg C.

actually I looked at the paper for the bosch M12 sensor that comes with the wolf and it seems its slightly different than what I have (which is the original untouched coolant map). I have emailed wolf about this and am waiting for a response. While it doesn't seem too far off, it seems to get worse as the temps get higher.

Since my voltmeter does not measure currently properly for whatever reason, I'm going to pickup a new one and hopefully it will have a temperature probe as well. I'll start a new post with all the information I gather as soon as I can.

Rob.....you are the man!!!!

Thanks bro!

I'm going on a hunt for a multimeter with a temperature probe... if I can't find one at a local place I'm gonna order this:

wolf hasn't responded to me yet. I'll end up comparing whatever I have now / get from wolf to actual temperature readings and will have it all up next week (maybe even tonight)

no response from wolf so ill post my findings with a temperature probe.

wolf reads: 89
temp probe reads: 75.5

I'll have to take more readings as the car gets hotter and also use the datasheet on the m12 sensor and make an accurate map. I'll post it here when done.

116 wolf, 103 actual.

Here is a temp map that I came up with. Ignore the rest of the shit in here its from an older map.

I'm going to see how accurate it is with my temp probe now. I'll update some more later. This is for the M12 bosch sensor that came with it by the way.

if anyone can send me the old 4.49 software I'd be greatful since I don't have it on this computer. I like having the feature to export specific maps.
