Thunderhill - June 19, 2006

Got Guts at Thunderhill
An Open Track Day
June 19, 2006

SAMOA, the Sacramento Area Miata Owners Association, is proud to sponsor an open track day at Thunderhill Raceway Park, Willows, California, on Monday, June 19, 2006. This will be a traditional track event with 3 run groups, 6 scheduled 20-minute sessions per group (with an open session at the end of the day), and optional instruction for novices. Groups A and B will be limited to 25 cars each, and the novice group to 20 cars. Our event will emphasize safety and fun. Although SAMOA is a Miata club based in Sacramento, drivers of all types of cars are welcome. The cost is just $210 per driver ($225 after May 31, 2006).

The event is being presented as a benefit to raise money for the Crohns & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA), a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for IBD – Inflammatory Bowel Disease. All net proceeds of track-related activities and 100% of all raffle receipts will go directly to CCFA. Raffle prizes are being solicited from more than 50 Miata and other general automotive vendors, and prizes will be raffled during the lunch break so that on-track activities will not be affected.

A website has been created to promote this event – http://www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com. At the site you will find complete event information, signup forms, and prize and driver lists. Please check it out. If you need additional information feel free to contact me via email at freescopesdad@yahoo.com or by phone at (916) 454-1008. Looking forward to seeing you at the track…

Well, last time I was at Thunderhill, my Bowel's became inflamed when Stan did an illegal pass on me at turn 6! Maybe I should attend.
j/k, sounds like an interesting event, are you any relation to the Petrich's Cycle guy in Orland?

illegal pass?? I boldly refute that accusation!!

too far in the future for me to commit to this event

freescopesdad 01-19-06 01:51 PM

I don't know the guy in Orland...unless he's worth a lot of money.

Now use PayPal or Credit Card

...just what the title says. I've posted a link to PayPal on the website at www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com so you have this payment option as well. And PayPal will accept your credit card payment without requiring you to open a PayPal account. There is, however, a $6.00 handling fee for all payments through PayPal, which is actually a little less than I am charged. I hope this option makes things more convenient for some. Of course, you can still send me a personal check via USPS. Either way, don't forget to fill out and mail the registration form as well. See you at the track...

Well, just a reminder that this event is starting to fill up nicely and the raffle prizes are rolling in. We'll also have some special stuff from Autoweek, GRM and several other vendors that hasn't arrived yet at my front door. If you can afford the $$ its always best to sign up sooner rather than later so you get your choice of run group.

Ron, I went ahead and made this thread a sticky so it wouldn't get lost in the mess in this section. Hopefully my FC will be track worthy by then. If so then I'll surely sign up.

Driver List Is Up

...i hate college sometimes

robtech...hey man, that's what's gonna get ya that high paying job so you can buy Thunderhill and come out any time you want.

OK, the first driver list is up at www.gotgutsatthunderhill.com/driverlist.html. Its only 15 paid so far, but I've got "gonnas" from at least 40-50 others, so you don't want to wait too long if you want your preferred run group. See you there.

Quick Update...

Well, we are 2 months out and already have 23 paid drivers signed up (no Rx7s so far but that's just a matter of time right?). Of course I got 5 just yesterday...so don't wait too long if you're looking to be in a specific run group. Everyone tells me we'll sell out before June 1 when the price goes up. See you in June.

Awesome, I don't leave for Japan until the 20th, so I'll try to make it out to this. Will probably be my first open track event, so I'l lbe in the n00b group.

37FC3S 04-21-06 04:29 PM

Are you going to drive the RX7 I sold you?

I believe I will. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in an autocross or two before the track event so I know how the car handles.

37FC3S 04-22-06 03:43 PM

Let me know how it does. For Thunderhill try 12 on the coilovers and 38 psi in the front, 10 on the coilovers and 35psi in the back as a starting point.

Well, when I go I always take pictures of cars. In the town I visit there's a pretty nice shop that builds $200,000 skylines for rich businessmen, but the main reason I go to Japan is because my folks live and work there.

freescopesdad 04-28-06 04:00 PM

that's good enough for me. do they have track days over there like we do here?

freescopesdad 05-04-06 06:00 PM

WHOA...we are almost 50% full in all groups. You don't wanna be stuck at home (or worse, at work) do you? Come on and sign up now before the price goes up. Hope to see you all at the Hill.

One Month Out...

and we already have 43 paid with another 5-6 in the mail...more than $7000 in raffle prizes have been collected. This promises to be a super event and a successful fundraiser for CCFA. Thanks to all for helping to make it a success. We still have space in A and B groups for experienced and intermediate drivers, but just a couple of slots in C (novice). So get your applications in. Hope to see ya there.

We Need Just 2 More Instructors

With the novice group now full (20 drivers), we have 13 who have requested an instructor, but only 11 experienced drivers who have volunteered to help out in this regard. To those 11 I say thanks very much. You all stepped up even before I decided to buy each instructor an extra $20 in raffle tickets. To anyone else with the necessary experience who is willing to invest just about an hour of his/her time (just 3 20-minute morning sessions), I'll make sure an extra 5 raffle tickets are in your envelope come check-in, on my dime...whether I need you to instruct or not. There is still plenty of room in both advanced and intermediate groups. Thanks.

$210 Price Extended...

I have 55 paid drivers as of today. The novice group is full, there are 4 spots left in B group and about 10 in A. Because of the great turnout so far, and because I know some folks may be a little short (of money that is :) ) we are keeping the price at $210 all the way to trackday. We have 1 RX-7 in the fold already (in C) but we could always use a few more.

We are also looking for at least 2 more volunteer instructors. You don't need to be a race driver, just experienced and confident in your track knowledge and abilities, and willing to help. In exchange, I'll buy you $20 in raffle tickets and an extra lunch if you have a significant/spouse/friend/family with you. You would only need to devote one hour to this instruction (the 3 morning sessions). Or, if you plan to come up just to watch, and you have the skills, I'll make it worth your while if you help out.

This promises to be a great event and a successful fundraiser for CCFA. We have garnered about $7,000 in great raffle prizes - everything goes at lunch time. Winners do not need to be present to win (all I need is your name and phone number).

Looking forward to seeing you all at Thunderhill.
