Thermostat and heating question
Thermostat and heating question
ok so i had my '87 fc heat up about three weeks ago cuz of a dam thermostat.
so my question is does my rx7 really need a thermostat? and did it do a lot of damage to my apex seals and water and oil?

yes you do check around http://www.aaroncake.net/RX-7/overheat.htm explaisn everything
You can run without a thermostat and not have that big an issue however here are some issue you may encounter.
While you're waiting for a new thermostat, going without a thermostat will be fine. It's just not ideal. Without a thermostat:
1. There will be nothing to block off the bypass. That means less coolant flow to the radiator for decreased cooling performance.
2. The ECU will go into open loop mode. That means you lose about 2 mpg.
3. Your car will warm up slower. That means you'll get increased engine wear if you drive hard while the car is still cold.

no t-stat, FD ROPR (other RX-3 has 100psi reg from Powerhouse Engineering), no warm up. just start and go. so oil pressure pegs over 120PSI when driven cold. Wear and tear comment is a joke. I dont baby my motors. 10K RPM once a day is the key to a long lasting motor. if it blows, oh well, just build another one. Thats old school mentallity for you.
