I'll let Icemark chime in on this as far as other meeting points are concerned... We met at the rest stop last year but that was the only place we stopped for a meetup.

Mark, maybe you could designate a secondary meet-up spot for the others? I myself am unsure as to where Santa Nella is. I'm not really familiar with the central valley at all. All I know is we just shoot down I5....

Sounds good Mark...

As far as radios are concerned, I believe just a standard 2-way radio will work....

I think so. Let's wait and see what Mark posts up as itinerary though, you can count on him to keep things squared away

Okay, for the late Nor Cal Caravan here is the map/route and expected times.

Note: This Caravan will be running about 2:15 hours after the way too early in the morning/ RX-8/ Nor-Pac Caravan

Tracy rest stop:

Leaving the Tracey South bound I-5 Rest stop at 10:00AM

First Leg
Total distance to drive 'til next stop: 38.1 mi
Estimated time: 34 Minutes

Depart on Local road(s) (South-East) (0.1 mi)
Merge onto I-5 (37.4 mi)
Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards CA-33 / Santa Nella / Gilroy (0.4 mi)
Turn LEFT (North) onto SR-33 (0.1 mi)
Keep STRAIGHT to stay on SR-33
Turn LEFT (West) onto Local road(s)
Arrive at Santa Nella For Gas up and meet up with any late South and Mid bay drivers.

Exit I-5 at CA33
Rotten Robbie's truck stop west of fwy.

2nd Leg
Leaving Santa Nella at 11:00 am
• Total distance to drive 'til next stop: 99.3 mi
• Estimated time: 1 Hour, 26 Minutes

Depart on Local road(s) (East)
Turn RIGHT (South) onto SR-33 (0.2 mi)
Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards I-5 (0.1 mi)
Take Ramp (RIGHT) onto I-5 (98.1 mi)
Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards CA-41 / Kettleman City / Paso Robles (0.3 mi)
Keep STRAIGHT onto Local road(s)
Turn LEFT (North) onto SR-41 (0.6 mi)
Turn RIGHT (East) onto Bernard Dr
Arrive at Jack in the Box/ Kettelman city around 12:30pm

The Jack in the Box at Kettleman city off ramp, is a huge parking lot, and there are at least a half dozen gas stations within the two blocks. It is also the cheapest gas for around 150 miles.

Third Leg

Leaving Jack in the Box/Kettleman city off-ramp at 1pm.

• Total distance to drive until next stop: 139.2 mi
• Estimated time: 2 Hours

Depart on Bernard Dr (West)
Turn LEFT (South) onto SR-41 (0.6 mi)
Turn LEFT (South-East) onto Local road(s)
Take Ramp (LEFT) onto I-5 towards I-5 (137.9 mi)
Construction between Lebec and Valencia (SB) (August 2, 2006 - November 10, 2006)
Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards Rye Canyon Road (0.2 mi)
Bear RIGHT (South-West) onto Local road(s)
Turn LEFT (South-East) onto The Old Rd (0.2 mi)
Turn LEFT (North-East) onto Rye Canyon Rd, then immediately turn LEFT (North-West) onto The Old Rd (0.2 mi)
Arrive at Old Road Gas/Food stop at/around 3pm.

This stop also has a huge parking area, mutiple gas stations and fast food joints with radically easy back onto the freeway access. It is a much better choice than the earlier Northern Pac/RX-8 Caravan's stop (Exit Valencia, Right on Valencia, Right on The Old Road and right into the Westridge Plaza, Exact address: 26858 The Old Rd Valencia, CA 91381).

4th leg:

Leave Old Road at 3:30pm

• Total distance 'til Hotel: 78.7 mi
• Estimated time: 1 Hour, 9 Minutes

Depart on The Old Rd (North-West)
Take Ramp (RIGHT) onto I-5 towards I-5 / Los Angeles (12.2 mi)
Construction between Lebec and Valencia (SB) (August 2, 2006 - November 10, 2006)
Turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards All Trucks (0.3 mi)
Take Ramp (RIGHT) onto I-405 [San Diego Fwy] towards I-405 / Santa Monica (62.1 mi)
Road widening near Westminster (EB) (May 22, 2006 - February 16, 2007)
Take Ramp onto SR-73 [San Joaquin Hills Trans Corridor] towards CA-73 / CA-55 / San Diego Via Toll Rd (2.4 mi)
At exit 16, take Ramp (RIGHT) onto Bristol St towards Irvine Ave / Campus Dr (0.4 mi)
Turn LEFT (North-East) onto Campus Dr (1 mi)
Bear LEFT (North) onto MacArthur Blvd (0.3 mi)
Arrive at Hilton Irvine Airport. 18800 MacArthur Blvd., Irvine, California, United States, 92612.

With late afternoon traffic figure on a 5:00-5:30 arrival time (depending on LA traffic).

I drove this route last week in my vert, and while I didn't stop on the way back other than at Kettleman city if we are in a hurry, we can drop some of the other stops.

5 South
210 East
2 South
5 South
10 East
710 South
405 South

If you take the above route, it will save you at least 1 hour of headache instead of the one below.

I'll take a look at that, but I traditionally avoid the 210 and 10 east on Fridays due to the parking lot traffic that they normally have

The traffic on the 210 east starts in downtown Pasadena where the 210 and 134 Freeways meet. The 210-2 junction is at least 5 miles west of Pasadena so there is no traffic. 10 Freeway East traffic starts after the 710 Freeway in ELA/CalState LA area.

So if you take 210-2-5, you will end up near Dodger Stadium/Elysian Park. Traffic will start thru and including the 10 east but at least its moving. Once you get to 710 south, its clear until about Firestone (Bicycle Casino) wherein there will be an occassional stop and go. But again, thats much better than sitting on a dead stop along the 405 Freeway between San Fernando Valley and Long Beach.

Thats how the 405 generally is these days at about that time, especially approaching LAX. Wacky's route is a good option, or just stay on the 5 south, then 710 south until it hits the 405 south. Either way, if you cats want a traffic update just before you get into LA, I'll give you my number. Im ususally still at work at that time and can check that status

Safe trip!
