Sequential expert needed!

Ok i'm just about done with trying to figure out the problem with my stock sequential system. I don't have much time because i'm a full time student at UCLA, so i usually try and trouble shoot it on saturdays or sundays.

Either way, i'm looking for somebody that is extremely knowledgeable in the stock sequential system that can take a look at my car for me, and fix my boost issue. Of course, i will pay $.

The boost issue: 10-5-5

What i've checked so far: switched pre-control and wastegate control plugs, wastegate pills, vaccuum lines to pre-control/charge relief valve, charge relief valve, pressure chamber, vaccuum box, various check-valves, various vaccuum hoses.

I can't go much farther than that because i don't have another person, or the tools for the job. So ANYBODY in the southern california area, please let me know if you're good at finding secondary boost problems, and let me know how much you'll charge me to trouble shoot my poor 7! Thanx.

sounds like you got a turbo problem. hah!

I had something like that before. It turned out that I had a crack in my turbo housing between the primary and secondary. It was a pricey repair. Hope your problem is just a vacuum leak somewhere. :(

optimus prime 10-01-06 09:42 PM

damn...i really hope it's not a cracked turbo housing.....

I'm so close to just going non-sequential...somebody talk me out of it.

guitarjunkie knows his stuff. You should ask him for some help. Most likely, you'd have to take it into a shop. It just so happens that he has one. :)

There are lots of shops out there. If you can't figure it out, you don't really have much choice than to have it looked at by a pro. Either way, maybe one of the techs on here can at least tell you where to start poking around. Karack probably has some ideas if GJ can't help. Both are very knowledgable, and they're cool guys. Good luck, homey.

Thanks for the kind words and advice, you have been very helpful. :icon_tup: for being kind to a noob! I'll be sure to hit up guitarjunkie.

pshaw118 10-01-06 11:38 PM

np. by the list of things you checked, you're definately not a noob. I had an FD for a few years, and I have no idea what half of that crap is. haha.

a friendly warning....

The west section isn't for the thin-skinned. We pretty much rag on each other all day long. Just try not to get offended when people start calling you :gay:

Oh yeah, threads get hijacked all the time. Just get it back on topic by asking questions directed at specific people (or take it to PM so people can enjoy whatever topic they switch to). Welcome to the most noob unfriendly forum on the interweb. When I said "good luck", I wasn't talking about your car. I was talking about the West section. haha.

I'm sure you'll fit right in. Most people do..... after their skin gets thick enough.

btw, optimus_prime is :gayboy:

optimus,

i happen to be a full time at westwood and have a 2nd turbo problem as well.

resulting from shitty rebuild.

found way here via search for charge relief valve.

where do you park?

i usually park on lot 3

SERIES7 10-16-06 11:38 PM

OP, are you running a stock cat? How many miles do you have on it? Also, could be your stock boost duty selenoid, have you checked that? If you're still running stock, you might want to consider picking a MBC or an EBC.

GoRacer 10-16-06 11:56 PM

Make shure both bolts and the C clip are connected and tightened to the precontrol valve.

optimus prime 10-18-06 12:03 AM

Hahha...good stuff! I park in lot 3 as well, funny, i haven't seen any other sevens in the lot. I'm up for a meet if you guys are! haha. I'm at school 3 days a week, let me know.

Also, no i haven't checked my boost duty solenoid; as for my cat, i'm pretty sure it's the oem cat that came with the car: 75k miles. Don't worry shaw, nobody is using their dipstick on my seven. LOL :ar: :gayboy:

SERIES7 10-18-06 01:12 AM

sometimes, seq problems are caused by the most unlikely of sources. Try doing a simple swap of the stock main cat with another FD owner, or better yet, just pick up a straight pipe. :D

Then, get yourself a Greddy MBC ($100 tops)

If you're boosting 10 lbs. on your primary but boosting only 5 lbs. on secondary and less than 8 on transition, could be just flow restriction. Also, check to see if you're getting any oil in your crossover pipe. If you are, you might also have a seal leak in your secondary turbo.

SERIES7 10-18-06 01:13 AM

Oh btw, just go non-seq. Once you switch over, you'll never want to go back. HAHAHAHA! :gay:

BoostedRex 10-18-06 09:38 AM

I don't think I would put a straight pipe on your FD if you are on a stock ECU. That's a sure ticket to a blown motor. But swapping out with another known good stock cat would be a good way to see if yours is jacked.

And I'll second the notion to contact Guitarjunkie. He knows his stuff and is a good guy too. Just don't bend over in front of him.

And Series7 is right, go non-seq!! :)
