Need new 12A or rebuild. Suggestions?

83 RX7 GSL. Runs great but leaking oil on the left side between the rotor housings. Need a new 12A or possible rebuild. I live in San Diego 92126. I have seen what Mazdatrix offers and various other sites. Any suggestions here folks? Anyone on here want money to do it? What options do I have? Would it be possible to put something more powerful in there without getting rediculously expensive? Help!

Real quick before I go- a mechanic that I took it to to diagnois where the leak was coming from made an offer that he could apply JB weld to the exterior where the leak was coming from. He said it's not a guarenteed that it will stop the leak, but an alternative to feeling like I have to replace the engine. Any opinions on that one? Should I do the patch method to temporarily fix the problem and get the most out of what I have since it still runs top notch, or just go ahead and pursue a new power plant.

Holy crap, I saw a pic of this "temp fix" crap. Looked like shit, and it would be a bitch and a half to rebuild it after that. Most likely you blew an oil seal. If you just keep running it the only thing it will do is smoke like a mofo, and you will be filling the oil a lot. You might as well go with a rebuild.

If you are wanting more power, go with either a 13b or a s5 13bt transplant. To go along with that you will need the tranny, and a custom driveshaft but if you did the work you could probably get it all for under 3 grand...mabye 1.5-2 if you bargan shop. If you take it to a dealership they will probably charge you around 2k just to rebuild it.

With so many option out there- I don't know which is best concerning power and price. I want someone to do the work. I don't know how to do it.

How much power and torque is to be gained with a 13b? Other than it being fuel injected, what's so good about them?

If you know anything about pistons, it is similar to comparing a 305 to a 350. What makes it better is more displacement. Also the 86 and up use a 2mm apex seal. I prefer the older 3mm myself... But your 12a will take a beating whereas a newer high-preformance 13bt or 13btt will not...
