i wanna run on a track
 

So i wanna run a local track, just got my rx7 tuned and i wanna play a little. While i dont mind going the solo route, I think it would be a lot more fun if a bunch of rx7 showed up. I was checking out a few tracks and buttonwillow seems to have the best reviews, they have an open test days on jan 14 and again april 8th. I havent yet looked into any other tracks, but if anyone else out there is interested in going to the track for some fun soon, we should make an event of it. I think its around 4 grand for a personal track rental and that would allow 12 cars to go with 6 on the track at all time without all tow trucks and medics and stuff having to be around. Im also down to join someone else's event if their is one already. No limit to the type of racing either. Drag would be ok, but i am really wanting to do some circuit and drifting. Havent done either before so i know i would need to pay whatever memberships some tracks may require, but im up for a good time!!!! Without the worry of cops chasing you.

You basically pay a one time fee then its like $50 everytime you wanna go out on any course and do as you please for the day. There, you can drift, grip, do donuts haha anything. Me and a few buddies are gonna sign in a couple weeks so maybe we can all go get it together and sign up to run that same day?

Just my opinion,but you should learn to drive your car first before hitting the bigger tracks. Autox is the best way to learn.

And I disagree. You get way more seat time on most track events than you do in solo. AutoX probably teaches you great car control and so does drifting or whatever. But there is no reason why you need to auto x before you take your car to a road course...

Sorry but I dont agree with you fc3s91, as rocky said, more seat time, and thats whats matters is behind the wheel experience....i feel i know how to drive my car, the fact the i havent driven on a course doesnt mean i dont know how to drive my car. Also I am being taught driving techniques from now until he feels i have no more to learn from him, or until he gets tired of teaching me, as i am never against being taught a method of doing something, as at most it will increase my ability, at least it will increase my knowledge. And its not like i plan on driving with pros. I wanna drive with other hobbiest like myself and move up as my ability does. And maybe this is the newb in me talking but a track is a track no matter how big or small. "There's no 'wax on wax off' of drifting. You learn by doin it. The first drifters invented drifting out here in the mountains by feelin it. So feel it. " I believe this principle can be applied to all life, driving along with other things. it can take years for me to "master" driving my car, as i will not be able to do it everyday, so waiting for that day to come before i hit the road course, yeah right. to be honest I kinda hate that attitude, i built this car to have fun on the track, if i crash it will suck but oh well, lesson learned. Shit if i never crash on the track it would be some sort of record as everyone has crashed or hit a wall or spun out at least once in their life, and mostly likely they learned alot from that single experience. Who knows I might be the next rookie sensation, lol:egrin:

not sure if I will be free the night of the 11th, but tuesday the 18th I have no plans except this, riverside isnt that far from me so I hope to have fun. If anyone else wants to go, we can plan a caravan type of thing to get their.

Ok. What do I know?

AutoX practices run the whole day... Had to sit out a few runs to let my tires cool down. It's always an option if you want some cheap, local fun.

adams track is a shit track if there not fucking with your times, they are letting who ever they want go ahead of you when it's your time to run.

I've never been to an autoX event. From what I've seen it looks cool but not for me. I'm down to try it tho.

I went straight from driving, and I know its stupid but it was years ago, driving in the canyons and learning my car's abilities, straight to advanced intermediate classes and whooping a lot of ass in my old NA FC at WSIR.

I'm sure autoX will teach you a lot about your cars capabilities but I say why waste time going around cones when you can go straight to learning on a real track in a beginner's group?

Well, Saturday Jan 15th is the next practice, we're allowed to have passengers so feel free to come on out and see what it's like firsthand - for free. You can decide afterwards if this is something you'd like to try or not :)

Chuckwalla Raceway is a new track that just opened at Desert Center, and events are cheap, so take a look at that also.

Nah, not adams, it's the Auto-X practice at Autoclub Speedway. It's all day :)

I think the misconception is that if you go on a track, they just let you out and run with everyone else. Any good club would not allow beginners to go out by themselves the first time. They would have instructors teach you the passing rules (if you will even be allowed to pass) and explain all the flags. You will (and should) always run with your own skill level.

I had a thought about auto x vs road racing... something about masturbating vs sex.

I know they don't let u out with everyone else, while I haven't been to a track, I have read a lot about them since I stated building my fc, so I have been reading about different ones, rules, regs, requirements, and all that. I would like to one year partake in the silver state challenge in neveda, although I think they changed the name of that one recently. To be honest I would be scared of a track that would just let me on without any thought, as I'm not lieing to u guys and I wouldn't be lieing to them about my experience, or lack there of on a track. Also love that last part, had me busting up.

I wanna run the track so I can run my car without worry of cops, as well as meet a few people who are into the same hobby as me.

The reason I say auto x is because every person thinks they know how to drive. When you have no track experience, you tend to over drive your car. Auto x allows you to learn how to maneuver your vehicle in a tight coarse without damaging your car. You ask any real driver and they will tell you that a auto x driver will make a better road racer. Believe me I have been doing both auto x and road racing challenges for years and found myself getting better times due to auto x. Thats why my son races karts in the solo 2 series. Maybe he will one day race my rx7 or become a le mans driver.:fingersx: Anyways, Im just trying to lead you in the right direction.

If you're serious about doing the practice on Jan 15, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. Or you can come out and hand over your drivers license to borrow a helmet and do ride-alongs :)

Cost for one. You can go through a set of tires in a weekend on a race track. Plus fuel, travile time and it's not as hard on the car.

You Do learn better car control, and at a slower much safe (for you and your car) pace Auto Xing.

Seat time is always a plus, and don't get me wrong. There are many drivers that never Auto Xed and are fast with very good car control.

But you can tell the guys that learned Auto Xing first.

I've been an instructor for SCCA/NASA/USA Speed Trial/ STVOA and Viper club. In both Auto X, Time Trials and road racing. The things I've seen guys do on their first few times out on a track would scare the shit out of you.

The guys that ran (even a few)Auto X's first are well ahead of the game from the very first lap.

Blowing a turn at 50 or 60 mph is one thing. At 80 or 100 plus is another.

I would like to thank everyone for their advice, I hope it continues. But I think their is a misunderstanding here, I'm not agaisnt autox, I was just stating it wasn't gonna wait to track it till I autocrossed, I just want to get out their. As it turns out the next event. Happens to be a autox at fontonas autoclub speedway, already registered so I can't wait. Had it been a track event say at willow springs or somewhere, I would have jumped on that, but as fate would have it autox will be my first legal racing experience, well besides going straight for a 1/4 mile, or in my case an 1/8 miles....I wish ponoma would hold more events for the public to run

Anyways, sounds like your going to have a good time.

My best advice for Auto X (or track). Know the track. Walk it as many times as possable. Till you can walk it with your eyes closed.

After your first run and waiting for the second. Sit in your car, close your eyes and picture yourself doing the next run. All the braking points. All the turns.

This will give you more time to deal with what the car is doing in stead of trying to find your way.

AutoX is hard to do with a modified 7 if you're making any decent power. I was having such a shitty time when I upgraded from stock turbo to a bnr stage 3. Couldn't use the power anywhere and the course was just a pain to stay in my powerband...ended up having to drive the course staying under like 6k.

If you have a stock turbo it's pretty fun though.

Well I made it to the track, but didn't run, turns out I got a cracked apex seal, so gotta replace that and then it will be another 3000 miles or so till I make a plan to out, thx for the invite

In that case I pray u brake a rod next time out and it shoots right though the front of ur block, and ill take you on in a month since u think your so hot with that heavy, off balanced machine that shamefully resembles a rx7

for me, autocross thought me car control, and track days thought me driving lines. both very fun, and would like to do it again soon!
