Future FD Owner

Hey there everyone! After waiting for over 2 decades, I am finally in a position where I can own my childhood dream car. I know they say that you shouldn't drive your dream car because you'll be disappointed... I couldn't disagree more! Got to drive a slightly modded red R1 a few months back and my only complaint was the position of the steering wheel. I would like it telescoping but oh well. No a deal breaker. Anyhoo... I'm on the hunt for an unmolested FD under 17k. I'm okay with a rebuilt engine and such but I'm looking to keep my future FD a moderately modded car. I want to do reliability mods, modest suspension and Power FC. I've found a few that I'm considering. I'm even looking at some automatics that are much lower than manuals and spending a couple thousand bucks to convert it to a manual. The problem I'm finding is that there are plenty of RHD in my price range but I really do not want JDM. All that aside, I'll keep you guys posted. I should be making a move towards something in a week or two. Cheers!

Congratulations I hope you find the FD you are looking for.

If you don't want a RHD FD don't compromise. As you may find yourself down the line longing for what you originally wanted in the first place.

Good luck on the hunt. There are some nice ones out there. Be patient and not willing deviate from what your looking for as like Montego said you'll just regret you didn't wait and get what you really wanted.

Last car I was in search of took me a year to find but was worth it and had to drive almost 4 hours to get it in Lake Havasu City.

Thanks! Yeah, I've been waiting 22 years... I can wait a few months to get what I want =)

If I hadto go to Lake Havasu... that would be totally worth it... make it a pit stop on the way to Vegas ;)

At long last... I am picking up my dream car this weekend!!! 93 silver on red 80k auto. Because it needs a total engine rebuild, I'm getting it for a great price. It also comes with a manual transmission and drive shaft as part of the price... meaning I am gonna do a swap after I get the rebuild done. I already started a spreadsheet to track parts I'll need to get it running, but to convert it as well. I've been reading and re-reading threads on this forum for how to do the conversation well. Either way, I'm very excited and happy that I found the color combo I wanted since I saw my 1st FD in 1997.

Are you going for a factory rebuild?

My plan is to have the engine rebuild upgrades that focus on reliability and longevity. Better apex seals, better O-rings, polished rotors, improved water jacket paths.. things like that. My goal with the performance of this car is not to be a track beast, but to improve the overall efficiency overall. To me, this means better cooling, improved intake and intercooler, better exhaust, and improved fuel management/ecu. I love the 99 spec look and will be working towards that direction. This will be my weekend toy where I go on drives up the mountains and weekend getaways =)

do you know ballpark how much it costs in labor to do a manual transmission swap?

I'm doing all the labor, so I'm not the best person to ask. I was able to get the trans and shaft with the price of the car, but I've had to purchase the pedals, the lines, and various cylinders. I'm missing the clutch and flywheel at this point. but I can enjoy the auto for a while and wait till it gets cooler before doing a swap

Hey Gang, putting my new engine into the car this weekend. I have a build THREAD where I'm updating with pictures and such, but if anyone who is amazing with vacuum hoses wants to come double check my plumbing, I pay in pizza and beer!
