FD Wiring Guru Needed!

"Wiring Guru"...? Probably more like Electrical Engineer...

So, this all started when I purchased the car about a month ago and noticed the bare speaker wire traveling from the driver side door to the kick panel. I didn't think much of it as everything seemed to be working properly and I have plans do my own speaker/head unit install in the future. Plus, I had other parts that needed installation (full Powerflex kit ). This was until I was unable to roll up the passenger window from the driver side... So, I started taking off panels to see if I could fish out the problem. Little did I know, I had just stumbled upon the work of the dumbest alarm/stereo installer in the world! From what I can tell, there was an alarm installed and then cut out, all of the driver door control wiring has been replaced with unlabeled speaker wire and there are literally wires that have three butt connectors on the same line within 3" of each other. I have consulted the Mazda Wiring Diagram Manual but its pretty much like reading braille to me. I need help. It would be awesome if I could get Someone to help me out with this. If you do stereo installs professionally in the OC area or know someone who does (and are as anal as I am) I can even pay for time/supplies.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

Nothing...?

I can't tell what those wires are for but regarding your window, if 1 switch goes out neither switch will work. Also check your window lock if it is On you can't roll down the window from the driver or passenger side.

Hi,

Let me know if you are interested in still looking for wiring work. I am very familiar with Rx-7 wiring systems, my wiring style is Mil Spec Industry standard. PM me.

Frank, thanks for the reply. I decided to stop being such a little girl and decided to just tear into it. I have been working on the wiring for the last couple days and have everything buttoned up now. Pulled out 2 alarm modules, 5 relays and a whole mess of meaningless wiring. Pulled out connector pins and re-soldered/heat shrinked everything. Lots of pictures to come!

Thanks again for the replies guys!

Okay, so like I said, I spent a couple days repairing all of the wires that were either cut, butt connected or stripped for piggyback. I found an alarm module, a 530T window module and 5 relays. The window switches were cut at the connector, butt connected to speaker wire and run between the door and the body (not through the OEM boot...), butt connected again to 14 gauge stranded wire and run to the 530T window module (this module allows for auto up and down on every window and auto up when the car is locked via the key fob, which the car did not have...). I then traced the wired in the reverse order back through the door to the initial power source/harness for the window controls.

Here are a few pictures to better bring this horrific mess into perspective:

This is basically what I had after removing the kick panel and under dash vent "knee" panel:

After:

This was a 12v female plug that had been wired to a 12v constant and tucked up under the dash. Plugged into this was Motorola cell phone charger... Are you kidding me!? :facepalm2:

In addition to all of this I also pulled out a 10 disk CD changer and a 4ch amp. All in all it ended up being about 10 lbs! Here is what I ended up with minus the amp and CD changer:

i put an alarm in my FD, it can end up being ALOT of extra stuff, I however did mine properly and tucked everything behind the dash panel, that looks like a hack job at one of those 199 alarm install places, I HATE going to 'shops' that are so called authorized dealers, the owner charges by the job (to you) but pays his guys crap so they try and push as many jobs as possible for more $$$, I have rewired a few alarms for friends or personal and they are all almost always like this or worse, glad you got it all worked out

wow, and i thought the rats nest looked scary.

rip it all out, start over. id say pickup another harness and cutout what is modified, replace with stock.
i found something similar in one of my other cars. after a nearly full re-wire, everything was working correctly again.
