Can anyone Weld a diff?

I am located in Santa Rosa, CA.

Will anyone weld my diff thats local?

If you can let me know how much it will cost.

Thanks

It would still be assembled in the car.

It would probably be cheapest to just take it off the car and take it to a muffler shop and tell them what to do.

Is it hard to take it off?

^ taking a diff out is easy breasy, i do that shit by myself all the time. takes me 20 mins

theres several ways of doing it..

1. being dropping the subframe. (but thats too much work)
2. lowering the sub fram enough to unbolt the diff.

but why do you wanna weld a diff??? why not get a stock lsd(stock 1.5 n/a or turbo), and if you want a 2way why not invest in a Kaaz lsd or mazdaspeed, its worth the money.

what highmeh said... ive had a welded diff once. total no go!! it was off the next day

Welded diffs are noisy but are very fun... I would recommend having a spare diff whether LSD or not in case you can't deal with your diff being welded as some people hate it for daily driving.

Huge :icon_tup: to option #2, works great every time.

welded diff gets you by if your on a low budget, and its just as effective as a 2way lsd 100% lock
perfect for drifting. The only problem with welded na rear ends is that if you are making over 250hp and drift hard, you will grenade a halfshaft, stub shaft or a diff bearing, or subframe.

I actualy have 2 extra na diffs in my garage, and I have a welder with me as well, I just need to buy another spool of wire. I guess I can sell you a welded diff, this way youl have a backup.. $60 takes it? or $100 installed?

the spot im talking about is in hawthorne. he's a professional welder fabricator. he makes custom bikes and stuff like that. and when i removed my diff i just lowered the subframe all the way off. i used my man-muscle to put it back on lol. after putting this on, i wont prolly put a lsd in my car unless im sponsored.

I assume it's wire feed? I wish rx8 diffs were easy to come by... or else I would have bought another and welded already.

^ :facepalm3:

Siraniko 08-25-09 08:21 PM

JB weld good enough??

SINxSELEKTAH 08-25-09 08:27 PM

^ only if you pack a good amount of it to keep the spiders from turning

iLikeEatPoo 08-25-09 10:23 PM

just hire a mexican from in front of home depot to hold the spider gears in place. cheaper and much easier than welding it.

Edit: oh yeah forgot. Like zerox7 said... your from norcal you don't have them there I assume.

instead of using diff oil fill it up with gorilla glue, that shit will be better than welded

myersprostatus 08-27-09 11:40 AM

wait till your on the highway and your weld breaks, goodbye 7.

stop being so ricey and just go buy a gxl diff.

iLikeEatPoo 08-27-09 11:57 AM

Welded diff is fine, if you know how to weld. and if you actually track your car. if your going to weld it and just daily it's stupid and dangerous if you don't know how to drive safely and slow. also be ready to for over like 60$ in gear oil because you don't wanna reuse your old oil.
