Any SF bay area tuners??
 

Hello all. Currently got my project up and running after a super long build. I'm using a Haltech E8 and got a large turbo. I'm lookin for a good reliable tuner in my area. (if there are any) Im currently on the list for Steve Kan, but I'm not sure if I have the patience... I'm tryin to race it this season...ASAP. Need the seat time. I've thought about JTP, but I don't have the funds to take that many days off work and trailer the car to LA. So any GOOD rotary tuners from Fresno to sac That can tune my Haltech?????? ThanX

I hope someone chimes in here! Would be great--my car also was tuned by Steve Kan the last time around, but I just recently had to take it down to SoCal. I am sure I'll be needing another tune eventually and if I don't have to go down to SoCal necessarily, that would be awesome.

Well I've talked to JTP & rotary power USA. Who would you reccomend?

no one tunes rotaries in the bay that i know of, you will just have to wait for one of the sessions to pop up or trailer the car south or southeast. i got swamped before i could set anything up.

Can't give you an object response to who I'd pick. I stated both Yoshiya and Nelson based on reading and through talking to people who have gone to these tuners, at least one if not both. I've yet to get tuned by either (weird unfortunate event/misunderstanding) even though I had an appointment with Neptune speed. Really both of these tuners come highly recommended so I can't imagine you'd go wrong either way.

http://www.yelp.com/biz/neptune-speed-huntington-beach for Yoshiya--keep in mind they'll likely want to keep your car around the shop, so if you do go down you should make it clear to them that you'd need them to check out the car in whatever available window you have. I'm sure this is also true for most people. IIRC the price I was told for Yoshiya was 400, and 150 for a retune.

Prices for Nelson were more vague, they had quoted me something along the lines of 400-500 I believe? I forget haha.

My friend does tuning, I'll ask him if he's willing to make the trip to the bay from SLO!

yeap, that is why these threads pop up. most tuners who have never tuned a rotary have not experienced an engine blow on the dyno or shortly after leaving the dyno. saving a few bucks isn't worth spending thousands towards a new motor.

most tuners who know better do not want to touch rotaries, for good reason.

i've handled plenty of calls from people who had non rotary shops tune their cars that didn't last long. generally i assume because they simply tune fuel and use the stock timing maps, which almost always are far too inadequate for any modified build, the stock timing maps are for constipated cars pushing low volumes of air and boost.

You gotta pay to play, and I have no doubt that Karack is probably one of the best out there from what I've been reading and testimonies from my friends. Good luck with your build!

i'm still going to see what the future holds. i may do some sessions in the north bay after i figure out what i will wind up doing and how much free time i will have.

it's just best to leave it to the experienced tuners who have done these cars, a little lean or timing a little too far advanced will result in a brick. many rotary tuners have lost motors learning what to do and what not do, i'm no exception.
