-2012 annual Hangover Run-

Well it's that time of year again and it's time to start off the new year with a beautiful scenic "drive" and bbq. My name is Travis and I first attended this run in 2010 when I believe Meogirl and Hozzman set it up. Last year My dad and I set up the run and we had a great turn out and we made some great new friends.

Myself and Doctor7 have been talking a little about the run so I wanted to make a thread where we can get input from everyone going as to what we want to do. Right now we have thoughts of ending the run at my house in Lake Elsinore and have a bbq here. There is plenty of parking in my yard plus the street.

I have no route planned yet because I want to get input from everyone. I am looking in to (via google maps) a similar run as 2010. We would take Clinton Kieth passed the Santa Rosa Plateau then there are some nice twisties down there. I plan to drive the road first to approve that it is suitable for low cars and NO GRAVEL

As of right now I don't know if I will be driving my car because I had a small engine fire yesterday and I don't know if I can get it fixed in time, but I will be be riding passenger in my dads car or anyone else who has an extra seat :)

Yeah i havent been able to look at the maps yet, ive been busy laying tile and doing a few other improvements at work. I will try to look today on my lunch if I can. I started this cruise last year and met alot of people, about 30 or so cars, cars from motorgen came too, cruise was real nice and i have been looking forward to it again this year. I stay in pasadena so road testing will be up to 10yearrx7, however for anyone wanting to caravan from this area that morning, there will be one. We gotta leave early to get there, last year I barely got to the meeting spot as everyone was leaving, almost missed the whole cruise. Here is a video from last year.

Damn I left out some crucial info.. - Jan 1st 2012 in the MORNING sometime. I'm think of meeting around 9 and departing when we are ready to.

I'm working 6 days a week right now to try to get my car back together for this cruise. If anyone is looking for a sick custom goped, Diamondback Assault dirt jump bike w/ inverted forks, or clean 10ae wheels w/ fresh tire lmk, I need the cash.

D0ct0r7 11-05-11 06:40 PM

what all do u need to get it running again?

JermsBoo 11-05-11 07:17 PM

We should put North or South CA in the titles, I got excited for nothing :(

D0ct0r7 11-05-11 08:07 PM

good point, im sure we can get that done. Maybe a mod can do that, put "socal" after the the title of the thread. But hey you could make a trip if you want, lol, not sure how long it would be.

Non rotard powered vehicles welcomed? :D

All vehicles are welcome! This run will also be posted on Motorgen.com which is a site with people that drive everything from ferrari's, street bikes, imports, muscles, etc.

So far I have found that all 4 lines to my omp are toasted. Plus I need a pulsation damper, which is believed to be the culprit of the fire. I couldn't do much because my dad took our little home tool box. My rear end is messed up too though. The clutch seems to engage harshly but it is coming from the rear. I haven't gotten a chance to check the frount diff mount yet because I don't have any jack stands. So even if I get the engine fixed I probably wont bring it.

Been there, endured that as well my friend. OMP lines, ECU harness, probably some new fuel line, spider with vacum lines, and new pulsation damper is in your future. The good news is it's all easy to replace with pretty much only needing 10mm and 12mm wrench's and sockets and an cleared out day to do the work.

Did this happen just after 7Stock?

I'm in by the way. :)

D0ct0r7 11-06-11 11:10 AM

the omp on these cars suck anyways, it took me forever to do, but now that i am doing it, its not as big a hassle as i thought it would be, just block off the omp and premix. takes maybe a minute longer to fill up gas. And i would put money on it that it was the pulsation damper, it happened to me before, never caught fire though. i was reading on how crappy they are even a brand new one at 200 bucks can be expected to fail in 2 years. i thought, way do i need one of these parts that will make my car flame in a bad way, replaced it with one of those bolts similiar to the one holding the fuel line on the other side. No issues since, just a thought. hopefully you dont have harness damage, that would suck alot. i was hoping i could help u out but it seems i dont have anything you need. Also had a chance to look on the map, now keeping in mind i do not know that area, so far the passes around cayon lake looked fun, also from the 15 to the 215, the 74 looked kinda fun, idk, anywhere around there nice.....maybe the route should be left for you to decide, lol.

10yearrx7 11-06-11 12:30 PM

I was actually reading up on doing both of those things last night. I already premix .5 ounce to a gallon w/ the omp so I'm not new to premixing. I don't know how much I should premix if I block off the omp though. Also I was reading on Fc3spro.com about blocking off the pd with a banjo bolt and it didn't seem like to bad of an idea. Is that what you did? Is it working ok? It would be much cheaper to just get rid of everything lol, but I want it to be right at the same time.

Cool hope to see you there!

Yeah the car would be apart right now but it is freezing and raining a little outside. I actually don't think the harness is messed up. We pushed the car to the edge of the trailer then started it to drive it up and it ran perfectly fine. So i'm prayeing everything is ok, but the possibility is always there. So far I'm thinking- PD or banjo bolt as a block off, New omp lines or block off omp, RC Engineering 550cc primaries while i'm there(why not?), and probably some vacumm hoses.

I was just looking in to getting some shineauto pieces for my car too, but that will have to wait now. :(

D0ct0r7 11-06-11 05:32 PM

Yeah i have been going on 2 years with banjo bolt and no issues. I premix w/o the omp what you do with it. Fris does the same, 5 oz per 10 gallon kinda thing.

10yearrx7 11-06-11 06:36 PM

Are you running an aftermarket fpr? The PD was just replaced a little over a year ago. They have a 1 year warranty but sadly my reciept is for 1 year and 1 month ago... just my luck. I have decided to eliminate the omp, I found a block off kit on banzai for $25, but I think i'm going to keep the PD even though they are junk. I think I might be on this run after all, we'll see.

D0ct0r7 11-06-11 07:27 PM

As far as the fpr, I am, but that wasnt always the case. Nice bonus of not having the omp is the motor does leak as much and looks nicer. As far as the pd, to each there own, but for me its just too much of a liability, thankfully you had a fire extinguisher when this happened. I didnt, and still dont but I know i need one.

10yearrx7 11-06-11 09:23 PM

I would deffinetly get one! mine was just a little cheapy from autozone that I kept behind my seat. I need to good some good research on the pd.

I was going to check out routes tomorow but my boss called me in and I need the money so next weekend i'm going to drive some routes.

RX7SpiritR 11-07-11 03:58 AM

well I'm down to try and make it, I work on the 1st but not until about 3 pm. Would be nice, since it's my first even since I came back to Cali. Nice to see you made it back too Hozzman! :)

10yearrx7 11-18-11 05:09 PM

What kind of length are we lookin' for on this one? I have a route in mind in murrieta that will take about an hour to an hour an 20 from the start to the ending point at my house. It is kind of short but if we turn around right at the end of the good stuff and head back the way we came it would be about a 2 hour drive all in all, plus bathroom/smoke breaks. The run is SUPER HILLY and it would really be a blast to drive it both ways imo. Some off the grades are 8% if not more so be sure to check your brakes before this run.

Just a little teaser of the route i'm planning- (crappy cell phone pic)
http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz17/10yearrx7/a.jpg

I thought I had a good route planned but the area i'm looking at is very confusing twisty wine country. I was lost for 45 minutes today in some crazy ass twisties. These are by far some of the most fun roads I have driven but I need to go at least once a weekend and learn all the roads so we won't get lost. It is all wine country with almost zero traffic but a few driveways that we will need to be careful around.

If I can find the road I was on today again I will make it part of the route, just think gmr x2. (not the road pictured, that road is not even near tight compared to the other one I stumbled upon.)

D0ct0r7 11-25-11 04:18 PM

sounds good, i like twisties. my vote, nothing over two hours.

My vote as well. But be sensitive to there being passengers in some of the cars. Motion sickness much more difficult for passengers than drivers in control of the car.
