ON New sub-forum where members can post cars for sale they've seen on Craigslist, Kijiji

Other car-related forums that I participate in have a sub-forum where members can post ads that they've seen for cars for sale on Craigslist, Kijiji, Autotrader, eBay, etc.

RX-7 forum members might want to post ads that they've seen elsewhere for the benefit of other RX-7 forum members who might be looking for an RX-7 for sale. If you're looking for an RX-7, it might help if there's a bunch of people also looking for you and posting ads that they've found.

The current "For Sale" sub-forum would not be an appropriate place to post these ads because the poster would not be not the seller.

And discussing the cars for sale and the prices that are being asked is always good fun.

I've deleted some of the posts that you put up Jim.

The reason that this Forum does not allow other forms of advertising is that They do not PAY to advertise HERE on this Site.
This is what drives the Forum and allows you the member to Use it FREE.

Now If we allow EBAY and KIJIJI to post here then what happens to the Vendors section?..they will say "HEY..I PAY TO ADVERTISE MY STUFF..WTF?"
Boom!!!..no income for IB and then NO RX7 Club FORUM.

IB would rather have this Site as a Car Forum, filled with info more than a Selling site filled with Parts.
There is No control of selling and buying from other sites If this is allowed to happen, then Yes,you can imagine there would be some idiot selling broken or useless parts to someone and the complaint department filling up with "I got ripped off"!
Frankly there are Many other established sites that do cater to specific Rx7 based parts..like Facebook based accounts. So,let them get the Traffic and let The RX7Club remain an Info Paradise..not a warehouse.

It's nice to have members trade stuff or sell,buy..whatever...BUT the actions are done within the confines of the Forum.
Having Selling sites ON this Forum would pretty well turn a Regulated site into a Free for all,and that I do not think you would want that!

If you need more clarification of this matter you can contact InternetBrands Via the link at the bottom of the page.
Thanks man.
STYX.

Styx, I appreciate your comments, but I don't see this as "advertising". It's just discussing cars that happen to be for sale.

For example, if you went to work and told your buddies at work that you saw a mint '93 R1 in Competition Yellow Mica for sale on eBay for $37.5K, no one would tell that you are "advertising" a car for sale and to stop talking about it. If you're a bunch of guys who like to talk about cars, everyone would have an opinion about the car for sale and the price being asked for it. So why not be able to do the same thing here? (My opinion happens to be that the '93 R1 in question was over-priced. The auction ended with the top bid being $25k. Others might have different opinions.)

And if your buddy at work happened to think a Competition Yellow Mica with only 22k miles was worth $37.5k and he bought it, well, you would have done him a favour by telling him about it, right?

As I said in the original post, other forums permit this without people getting upset.

Perhaps you could discuss this with the good folks at Internet Brands and see what they say. Internet forums are all about the ability to share information (in a polite and respectful way, of course) with people who have the same interests as you do. By restricting content just because it might be construed as "advertising" by the web site provider (even though it obviously isn't) it seems you're shutting down the free flow of information. It would be interesting to hear what other forum members have to say on this topic, if they have an opinion.

Obviously, if anyone starts posting spam links to, say, used parts web sites then that would be off-topic and worthy of deleting. I would expect the diligent site moderators to put a stop to that, and quickly.

Jim..
I am just a Member like you that voluntarily helps on this Site..nothing more,so I have no dog in the fight.

I am satisfied with the overall performance of the site and it's policies so I do not need to ask IB for any discussions to alter the policies.
It seems to be your concern to do that so as I suggested you can freely Contact IB and address the issue.
It is already laid out in the Policies of this Forum that no Direct links to Off Selling sites are allowed and I am just upholding that rule...and stating that to you.
If you feel it is a hindrance then by all means Feel free to Contact IB.

As far as other forums let you do this and that..Well,respectfully, that is other Forums..Not this one.

Hey misterstyx69 - I completely understand where you're coming from... but I don't think Jim is saying we link to eBay or Kijiji for just any 'ol parts... but specifically cars for sale, which no vendor is setup to sell.

I mean, this isn't anything that doesn't happen (or is enforced). One of the biggest discussion topics in the 3rd Gen section right now is about a car listed and linked to on a site that only sells cars.

Personally, I kinda like the idea - and it seems from the attention certain threads are getting others do too.

That said, I have no dog in the fight either and no desire to contact IB and push for it. :P

Matt.
As I said I am just letting everyone know the Rules and if they care to amend them then being a member it can be addressed.
Personally I just go with the Flow as things change here all the time and sometimes without notice..lol..
(I am NOT the Father..whew!)
So If guys get together and ask IB about this it may just happen!

Hoping you guys can get something put together. I've recently started researching and looking for my first RX7, it'd be a great help to see other experienced members' opinions on cars that are out there to help me in my own search and evaluation of cars. Heck, may even find one to travel for

If you search obsessively enough for RX-7s (as I do) on eBay, Kijiji (in Canada), Craigslist (U.S. and BC) and Autotrader you start to get a good idea of what sellers are asking for their RX-7. (But not necessarily what the cars are actually selling for.)

For example, I recently saw a '93 Touring model with 79k km. (49k miles) for $CDN 25,500 ($US 19,200) for sale here in Ontario. It was gone from Kijiji in a day or so. I suspect someone jumped on it at that price.
