Yeeehaawwww! doing a 20b is as easy as buying a motor, modifying a subframe, and dropping it in. It's funny how when you leave out all the details, all of these projects just become so much simpler There is a reason that setups like this typically sell for 1K or more.

BTW 750 - (280 + 40) =/= 600 It's even easier to make when you fudge your own numbers (not to mention that you are completely off on the parts prices in the first place!). Good luck.

 

Brilliant group buy, and superb product idea - something that works, and is legal. Just to confirm, I presume the ones to avoid are things like this (Click here).

I'm genuinely really interested in this product, so have a couple of questions. You've embedded a video from AutoExpress (some of us in the UK, the more cynical you may say, refer to the publication as 'Auto Distress') - which clearly shows the issues, however now the issue is highlighted, and as they pointed out in the video, they have informed ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers) of such upgrades, how do we explain to an overzealous traffic officer that this kit is in fact legal? As to them, they'll just think its a dodgy kit?

I want one, but its hard enough to explain "No officer, I'm afraid your not actually qualified to tell judge whether X/Y/Z is illegal on my vehicle" and asking them to provide "where in the vehicle construction regulations it states this?". A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!

 

I think these will technically be illegal in most US states - not sure about the UK. You're just not likely to be bothered since they look more or less OEM and won't blind people.

 

6-8 a day!? You have absolutely no idea how much work went in to these! We don't make them one at a time either, we were working with an assembly line of 23 sets, that's 46 lights and it took a long time, longer than we had estimated. Being very detail oriented also prolonged the process, as we wanted these lights to look beautiful, and they do! Quite frankly you don't know what you're talking about. Your pricing estimates are totally inaccurate as well! These lights are priced fairly, and I think people are gonna definitely think they are worth what they paid!

So the way it works in california at least is any headlight modification that is not approved by DOT (department of transportation) is technically illegal. This is more of a gray zone with our lights as they DO CONFORM to DOT standards (beam pattern, dispersion, and cutoff)... basically they dont blind other drivers once aimed. The other crap that's out there would never pass any sort of headlight test... so while ours are not stamped "DOT" they are for the most part legal (though not technically ) . Ultimately it's up to the discretion of the officer, but if you get pulled over its gonna be for something like 155 in a 65, and not for blinding other drivers

 

First thing: Don't quote me when you are going to spew forth a string of grammatically-challenged-dribble.

Second off: Find a quality Bi-xenon projector. They seem to be in the $350 range for a good quality pair of them with ballasts. Then the housing cost. I would estimate $40 for the pair, since oem is $25-30 per. If he takes 6 man-hours (read that term carefully) per pair... that's only $50-$55 per hour on a product that needs to make a profit, or else American's won't do something. I bet you wouldn't volunteer your limited number of free time hours in life to get paid $5/hour slaving over a bunch of headlights. Unless I am making $50/hour (total profit including margin on materials), then I don't see a point in me doing it on the side. Not to mention the logistics of shipping (non-identical orders) to so many different people, and managing the funds from a project of this size.


This entire situation is a headache that I am glad I am not dealing with. Leave me on the consumer side of this fence, and let him enjoy the fair profit he is making.

 

Wow! Your prices are way off my friend! BTW, try and get these housing now. They sell for 150ish now that the DOT has destroyed all FD units in the states. I know exactly where they got their projectors from and it is the MAIN source for retrofitting. And no they're not Lexus projectors. They are from the Infiniti FX35, a common used retrofit projector along with the s2000's, TSX's, and the TL's. I have these lights in my hands and cannot express how beautiful they are. Looks like art my friend. There was a lot of time putting the harness together also, and the ballast are small and feel of great quality unlike my old Wisesports HID kit. The harness alone was probably a pain in the ***. Trust me, the man hours cost is just as much as the parts. Especially since it was a pain in the *** to even get the housings.

Not going to be able to install these until next week at the earliest, but I couldn't wait to fire them up. Not withstanding the warnings about high voltage, I hooked it all up using the supplied harness, ballasts, enclosures with projectors & solenoids built-in, and bulbs - to a 12 volt battery I have conveniently charged and lying around. Then I connected the red wire lug to the +12v terminal and both back wire lugs to the ground terminal. Finally to "signal" the controller to fire up the lights, I used some alligator clip wires on the three-prong headlight connector which has red/white/blue wires. I supplied +12v to the red wire and then grounded either the blue or white wires. I forget which, but one of them fires up the ballasts leaving the low beam shields where they are, while the other one fires up the ballasts and energizes the relay causing the shields to "clack" open for high beams.

WOW!! Superbright, ultrasharp cuttoff. Can't wait get get these on the road!

But yes the headlight housings we use are extremely limited now and do cost around $150 for a pair if you're even able to find them. To be honest, these lights took longer to make then we initially thought so the next GB prices will have to go up a bit.

I definitely have to give credit to Heath and Womanunderground! They worked night and day on the lights.... Without them this GB would not have been a success. I wish I could have helped more

I wish I could get these lights! These are my favorite of the options out there. KS are really the only other lights I would really want to get. These have such an incredible look to them. I am very tempted to splurge on these if you do another GB. Is there any info about going another round, if so timing? I looked through to see if I could find any info with no luck, sorry if I missed it as I skimmed through. Thanks in advance for a reply.

Your car looks really clean!.... I saw the pics you took from further away (You should post them in here) and the headlights seemed to be aimed a little low. Since my car is lowered I think I added about a half inch to the alignment height and it made a hell of a difference. Hopefully you're happy with them
