1) Put on your flame suit.
2) go to http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/

Note the complete kit is $1795 + labor + engine.

fatboy7 02-20-03 01:18 PM

Believe me.... I promise that its a bit more involved than just finding the tach wire.... lol.... your putting a archaic engine from a different side of the planet in you car!! motor mounts are going to be the least of your issues.

I haven't done the v8 swap, because I have a moral line I will never cross. You can do what you want with your car, of course. Do a search for granny's speed shop and v8 RX-7 swap on google. They specialize in this particular monstrosity.

Barwick 02-20-03 01:33 PM

doing a V8 swap is:
a) harder than getting a 13b working
b) not cool

chris_stampe 02-20-03 01:45 PM

c. retarded
i run a low 13 and have spent about 2 grand on my motor (including the motor itself)

mikeyb2003 02-20-03 01:50 PM

the thing is i no not very much about a rotory

jeremy 02-20-03 02:07 PM

which is why you're on this sight with all these lovely rotorheads. be it a personal preference, it should be far easier installing a 13b.

J-Rat 02-20-03 02:09 PM

Oh boy! Its the monthly V8/Rotary swap debate. I was feeling so lonely without it!

mikeyb2003:
This forum has some good guys on it, and there is a lot of RX-7 help here.
BUT...These guys have a secret rotor religion and you offend them greatly.
I have done several swaps and absolutely love the results.
Come over to
www.torquecentral.com
and don't get the roto-religious police after you.

chris_stampe 02-20-03 04:57 PM

i wonder if anyone that did a swap w/ a different motor can beat me for the same price I put into mine.......if so i would love to see it.

SonicRaT 02-20-03 05:08 PM

chris: I probably could. ;) Free car... I've got a 327 from a corvette sitting on my floor with transmission... that was free as well.... All I'd need to do is get some mounts and fab it all up. I bet I could do it for under $2,000 ;)

Sorry buddy but if you think you can do an entire engine swap just by locating the tach wire.. you dont know very much about anything :ret: holy shit that is an awesome smiley :hah:
Sorry.. not trying to flame. But i think you might want a pro to do this...
Grannysspeedshop.com.. look there :p:

Steel 06-09-03 11:38 PM

For $2000?? You're not serous right? the tires probably are $500. You could easily spend the rest just on rims. There wouldn't be any of the engine parts etc...

He's got a car with no engine. The engine alone would cost $2,000 (for a rebuilt N/A) and then is has no goodies. He'd still need an intake and accesories etc. Could go with a Jspec (only turbos available) but then need the ECU, knock sensor etc, Cars a N/A so wouldn't go with the N/A drive line.

Only way to recover this Rx-7 is to take another car and mix it together. The other car could be and Rx-7 or something else but it will be the only cost effective way to go.

Not me, ask chris stampe above how he pulled that rabbit out of his hat for 2g's

With all do respect. If I were you I'd go back to school and learn how to spell.
