What do you know about the GM LC9 ENGINE?

So I talked a guy in to letting his LC9 engine go for $400 it's a longblock with some 214000 miles and compression is down on cylinder #4. He doesn't know the difference between a shock and a strut, he kept the engine after a shop swapped out this one.

It came off a 2008 Yukon XL 4x4 Eighth vin is #3 which means an Aluminum block which I want. All I am asking is if this is another of the LSX cousins meaning parts will swap.

If it is an LC9 than it is of the 5.3 LS variant. It will run a 58x ecm with DBW. I believe that engine also has active fuel management.

It is a 5.3 LS engine and does have VVT and DOD (displacement on demand) which can be easily swapped out though. It's a good deal in my mind @$400

Not a bad deal depending on what needs done to it. It should have the 243 heads on it which if they are salvageable are worth $400 themselves.

So this heads are worth keeping then, given I delete the DOD/VVT feature?

The 799/243 heads are desireable. They are the same casting used on the LS6 engines, only with different hardware.

Hopefully the low compression is not a deal breaker on the engine. Keep in mind the 5.3 can be bored out to 5.7 specs, so there is a lot of give.

9.6:1 doesn't seem to bad in my mind, I don't know I might add a turbo if budget allows or just bump the compression to 11:1 and swap cams and valvetrain. It's way more power than my TII put out in it's best day so I'm sure it will be fun.

Being that it has high miles I'm going to strip down the block and measure every thing, replace what's absolutely needed and upgrade the PVC system. From what I've gathered it should be a good foundation with somewhat limited potential due to displacement. I might destroke it to 4.8 though, but that seen counterproductive.

No reason to destroke. When I mentioned low compression I meant cylinder #4.

More compression is always a good thing though!

Hahaha I thought you meant the C/R. I am crossing my fingers it's nothing fatal, but rather simple to correct. Perhaps a seized lifter or something along those lines. DOD is a suspect. Now so source a T56 after I get the block inspected.

So I'm pretty bummed out, I almost had a 1993 Rx7, mint condition w/ 59,000 miles running strong for $10,000 :( Dreams come close only to slip away.

Ahem...Any ways this could turn in to a build thread or I might start one for the car.

Picked up the engine today after talking to a seller for a FD. I picked it up and drove it to my abode.
:D
Engine looks pretty appealing with it all aluminum body, sleek yet cheeky 243 heads.
Next update will be a inspection once the weather warms up.
