VH45DE (t?)

came across and infinity Q45 in a yard's "fresh meat" section. the car looks to be well taken care of, aside from the collision, still wax on the body.. A 240 buddy of mine was walking with me through it and pretty much shat a brick.

Anyone had any experience with these engines?
Yard's giving me a 30 day no hassle guarantee on it and I can pick it up for under 300 bucks.

I mess with them a lot and helped on 3 swaps already, they are a beast... you need to make a custom bell housing to attach it to either z32 or 33 gearbox, the z32 flywheel and clutch fits right in, and it works for both trannies since it has the same spline count. if you decide not to do it and want to flip it and make some money just for the motor let me know, I'm going down there for a wedding in a few weeks, i got the z33 chilling on my garage for quiet a few.

There are actually quite a few of them floating around the yard here, same price,
so if you're in the Panama City area you're welcome to shoot me a PM and I've got no quarrels giving you a hand pulling them out.

I'm gonna pull one here shortly unless I can find a 13b-re block.

I've got that internal debate going, where I'd love to stay rotary, but the allure of piston power is on the horizon.

then again, I suppose every manufacturer has their "wtf were they thinking" moments when you're tearing an engine down..

have you driven one? what are your impressions?

the problem i found is there is no aftermarket support at all. all i would want is a set of cams
i have a vh45 all ready to go but idk if it is even worth putting in
some guy on zilvia made 300whp/300 torque with headers and a basic tune.
how is the handling in fc once their are in?

torch'd 02-23-09 10:23 AM

weare finishing a turbo vh right now... yes the lack of aftermarket sucks but the power rules. and the light weight makes balance of chassis nice.

Google the vh, and you might come up on a site that is all about it. lots of how-tos and other good info. As far as i recall, a guy tossed one into a nissan 300zx, and used the stock nissan turbos to make over 480 RWHP. it was a nice setup, and only cost him around 3000 for everything!

does any one know or have a idea what is needed to swap a vh45 into a fc cause i just picked one up like 3 days ago and i want to swap it in mi s4

MMoore4545 09-09-11 08:59 AM

back from the dead.

gotta make your own mounts,
use one of the above stated transmissions
and make a driveshaft to either the stock FC rear end, or one that you swap in

it is a pretty custom job, I've yet to see it done

well I'm going to start the vh45 swap in to my s4 hopefuly it comes out good.

I am currently working the issue of a VH45DE swap into a FD. You need to also modify the oil pan in addition to what is stated above, they are all front sump and will not clear the steering rack.

Also a bunch of companies make an adaptor for the Z32/Z31 tranny. The Z31 can be had for decently cheap. I picked one up for $350 with drive line and in good condition.

Plans are to do custom mounts, Get oil pan converted to rear sump, modify crossmember if needed, make custom tranny and diff mounts, have current driveline mated to nissan one, get exhaust work done, then have ECU reflashed.

Ecu reflash puts it at about 340-350 HP.

are you gonna need headers or does the stock manifold fit? ando how mutch does it cost to reflsh the ecu?

It will likely need headers. The vh41de manifolds are much more compact and would probably fit, but will probably end up doing custom headers. The mazworks ones are like $900 and they are made for a s13 so they may still not fit.

I think the reflash is like $200. Money well spent if you ask me.
