V8-RX-7: Just got home from the dyno, graph inside

I was kinda hoping to break 400RWHP, but I'm happy none-the-less. There is more tuning to be done so I'm staying hopeful. I'm driving the car everyday now and it feels great! A long year has finally paid off. :D

that's a *lot* of torque by 3000 RPM! I bet it's fun to drive. ;)

nice work.

pictures?

Umrswimr 03-19-04 02:15 PM

Nice! That looks like a V8 TQ curve to me! :D :beerchug:

redrotorR1 03-19-04 02:46 PM

DAAAYYY-UMMMM! What kinda block you running? My L98 has beaucoup low-end torque like that .... my LS6 looks same, only backwards. ;)

BDoty311 03-19-04 05:26 PM

Looks good for a V8. Damn thats a big one aswell, 5 times bigger than the wankel!!

Which V8 do u have in it?? I want one too...also how does the car handle with the V8.. I mean the 50/50 weight distribution of the Fd must be way off now?

Read his sig. It sounds like either a old 400ci block bored over or perhaps a 350 block stroked to 409ci. Speaking of strokers did anyone else see the 472ci SBC stroker on hp tv the other week? That was pretty cool but I guarentee expensive to build. Anyways back on subject if you want to know about a v8 and it's effect on the FD's 50/50 weight distribution, do a search for "weight" and "LT1" or "LS1" as the subject's been brought up many times before. But in a short answer to your question if the v8 conversion is done right it won't really mess up the 50/50 weight distribution on a FD at all. And in all fairness there are some very good handling race cars that don't have a perfect 50/50.

this is automotive crime!!!! putting a v8 in a mazda rotary!!! im sure a great job has been done, but it is a crime over these ways!! its just wrong...theres at least 10 street regestered in oz i could list that make 4-450kw+ and are daily driven,9 second packages!!! should have stayed 13b.

cdk 4219 03-23-04 04:32 PM

The actual crime is letting :gayboy: on the board. Just because you are stuck on an Island with only tuner magazines to read doesnt mean you know anything about a 1/4 mile or a nine second car. Please tell us again how many 9 second 13b's you have running over there in Fast and Furious land?

Man....keep your :gayboy: comments to yourself. These guys have worked long and hard to buy their own cars and motors. They can do what ever they want with them....

epitrochoid 03-27-04 12:26 AM

well cdk 4219, since when has austailia/nz been the fatst and furious land?????? u tosser is america not the place of neons and hondas, what a stupid coomment,
list of 9sec and under street rotors,
Dave McPherson - TUFFR1 13b - 8.542
Joe Alba - 13b - 8.845
Paul Murray - RXTONV 13b - 9.02
Phil Awremenko 13b - 9.21
Rod MacDonal DRAGRX - 9.29
Sean Lewis MERCY - 9.30
Tim Kreis 13b - 9.405
tony Khoury 13b - 9.42

all this cars are untubbed Street Registed 13b's i didnt even bother adding the 20b ones, i think you need to stop talking out your arse and realise that usa isnt the only car mad place in the world, saying this i do appreciate the hard work gone into the v8 rx7 i was reffering to,i was simply saying why go v8 with these numbers from street driven 13b rotaries.

Hey CDK, whatever happend to that race against nocab7?

I think I like this dyno sheet better. Who's could this be??:D

BTW, thats some impressive low end power Mizeru!

CJ

cdk 4219 03-27-04 09:39 PM

200 hp at 4300 rpm, and it stops at 6900. Good for the rotary, less than average for a mild LS1. Best thing that I see is a 2300 rpm useable power band HUGE! The Nocab thing will happen this spring, and we,ll see what a stock pump gas LS1 will do with a all out race RX7. And for the down under:gayboy: I can guarantee there are no 9 second "street" legal driven rx7s in the USA, and I would also wager that if those cars were floated over here that they wouldnt be street legal either. On the other hand, I'm sure that we could bolt a set of ET streets on Jeg Coughlin's pro stocker and drive it down the street.Over here we have plenty of sub 9 second "street legal" cars, much more race car than street car. An F1 car could be outfitted to be street legal, but it's still not a street car. Maybe you should float yourself and a few of your 9 second street driven rotary friends over here, and become rich and famous by showing the Americans all of your tricks. You could call yourself the Rotary Hunter , like a Steve Irwin of the rotary world, jumping on and saving the beloved 9 second rotary. Crikey

Now come on man, this is on a car with 49k miles on the stock motor and clutch. I wanted to take it easy on it. Not to mention, I only paid $1500 for the turbo kit. :D When I get the motor freshend up and ported, then I'll run some high boost. Until then I'll be happy with more than enough power for me at 16psi. BTW, these are mustang dyno numbers, so you can add anouther 10% if you want dyno jet numbers. ;)

Could we see some dyno numbers of your car CDK, or is it not running still? CJ

cdk 4219 03-28-04 12:07 PM

You want to take it easy on a 49,000 mile engine? Why? I never got a printout of the 3.4" pulley Dyno run, but the last time the Stock LS1TII was on the dyno it was at 319 at the wheels totally stock. Every car I have is in running condition, even the CYM with the street port, just waiting to start it up this spring, wondering if it will lose an apex seal in the garage. I think the first engine lasted 30,000 miles and the car has 67 on it. Reliable engines those turbo rotaries.

pp13bnos 03-28-04 07:19 PM

I want to take it easy on the engine because its much cheaper to have a good rotating mass when the rebuild time comes.

I was also thinking about your comment on my 2,300rpms of power. The car was tuned to 9krpms, with very little hp drop after the 7k rpm dyno run. It does drop off, but not signifigantly. Even me shifting it at 8krpms (Wich I will when drag racing.) gives me a healthy power range for such a large turbo, and low boost.

Sounds like you should sell your car if you're so bitter about it. :) I look forward to the nocab7 race. CJ

pp13bnos 03-28-04 07:29 PM

I should let you know, that I realy don't have anything against the V8 swap. I know a couple guys localy who have done it/doing it, and I say to each their own. But what kinda bothers me is the way you bash on people. And I honestly did'nt realy even mean to start anything with you. I just wanted to know whatever happened to the race. It was suppose to take place like a year or 2 ago. Can't remember. But what I do remember was that you where calling Kyle out, and he accepted your challenge, but you where'nt ready. Or something like that...Does'nt matter. I just wanted to know if your car was running yet, that was all. Like I said above, I look forward to seeing the race. CJ

1point3liter 04-05-04 11:24 AM

CDK,

Please keep me posted on when and where the race is. I currently have the car apart changing around the setup. Hopefully I'll have everything together in time. I'd love to take a few vacation days to play with some rotaries. :D
