Transplanting the LS6 into the FD, need more info

Hi, I have decided to get an FD transplant an LS1 or LS6 into it. First of all, anyone that has any comments on desicrating the FD with the V8 and how wrong it is, I don't want to hear from you. The info that I'm looking for is: which companies make the kits for the conversion or do the whole job, what are the common problems with the transplant and any other helpfull info.
Thanks in advance.
Mike

www.hinsonsupercars.com will give you all the info you need.

ms750 05-06-03 06:56 PM

Are there any other kit makers besides that one?

Is the other one worth mentioning? Probably not, but do your own research.

Check out www.torquecentral.com as well. Lots of info on conversions there.

for the LS6, the oilpan might give you a bit of problems...

If i were you, Id do a LS1+heads and cam with possible nitrous and turbo :D

I don't know too much about v8's and the ls1 and ls6 but it sounds like a cool thing to me. But I honestly don't think it's a project (or any motor swap) I'd want to do myself. $

I'm not a rotary basher, or a rotary die hard. I know with a bit of money and more money set aside, the 13brew engine can be somewhat reliable, but the reliability of the gm v8's is apealing. And there are people everywhere that know them inside and out.

I'd rather see an RX-7 in the junk-yard.

HaHa, oh man, I love that lol

I dont know who's post was funnier yours or tbielobockie

Anyway, I believe Hison is the only conversion kit that will work. Also, its not just a bolt it in conversion, its a HUGE HUGE HUGE project so be aware of that.

Oh there it is, tucked right in under "rotary performance".

Anyways, this is a third gen question specifically, so it belongs here.

A bigger project then multiple rebuilds and turbo swaps and tuning on our cars? :o:

Yes actually it is, and if your making the power that requires you to tune on your car then your going to need to tune on the LS1 for the same power. Just like the FD once you get over the 350ish mark the LS1 is going to need tuning.

This is some great info. I spoke with the owner of the Hinsonsupercars and looks like I might have him do the whole thiing. The price is very reasonable. Plus I don't think it's worth my time to do the swap myself at the prices he charges. I did the turbo install on my Miata alongside with all the drivetrain and suspencion stuff and it took me 2 months (I'm really deatail oriented and don't want to have to do things twice). Well about 1.5 months into the project I got so tired of it, that I almost sold the car. This engine swap sounds like it might take as long if not longer. I'm not really up to that, and would rather just do the tunning myself and that's pretty much it. Can some of you share the total costs minus the car as far as how much it cost you to do the conversion.

That's funny because most of them end up there with expired rotaries. I dont see too many corvettes though.

Cost will be in the 7 to 10k range, and wit a stock LS1 tuning isnt an issue to have a car that does the 1/4 at 113 mph and knocks down 26 to 30 mpg with only oil changes required. Brian is giving a heck of a deal when he does the turnkey deal, it is worth it.
