T-56 6 speed transmission
How strong is the t-56 6 speed transmission from the trans am? I have head that the shift fork is the weak point, but the Viper one can be used to make up for that. I have also heard that the synchros pop it out of gear at high power levels. I plan on having 600hp pump gas for the street and 900hp race gas for the track. Can the t56 handle that? Also, what are my clutch options for this? Do I need to run a FD flywheel, FD pressure plate, and a custom made disk to fit the fd pressure plate and have the splines of the T56? I plan on running it on my 20b using an adapter. Another question... what type of pilot bearing will I need to run?
Are there any other better options for the transmission? I know the stock FD tranny craps out below 600hp. Thanks for your help!, Jesse |
It's not as simple as "can handle X power". Its a function of gearing, torque, traction and vehicle weight.
Being that you are putting this in a RX-7 it will handle quite a bit as the vehicle will be light and the gears will be short... it could probably handle that. As far as getting a T-56 bolted to a 13BREW I don't have a freaking clue :) |
in 2001, they changed the shift forks from aluminum(which are prone to bending) to steel. its a $36 part from www.t56rebuilds.com
