Spinning Tires
 

I'd like to get some ideas from you folks on the best way to make the rear end stick on these cars. My rear tires are 245/60/r16 if memory serves. I don't expect 1st gear will be useful as it's a v-8, but in 2nd gear If I jump on it she breaks loose pretty good with just me in the car. I had a passenger in it and got on it in 2nd and it squatted, hooked and gone......I want it to do this with just me in it.

Any suggestions on making it hook up?
I thought of adding weight in the spare tire area, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a light car.

Maybe not get on it so hard/ease into it? (but thats no fun)

Buy wider wheels and better tires. That is all you need to do.

cant fit wider wheel in there. and I flared the fender. and there are very few companies that make that size tire. they're BF Goodrich G force if memory serves. very few options on 16" rims. and I won't go to 17" as it looks to big of a rim for those wheel wells IMO

You'll need a bigger and better compound tire. What tire do you have now? How old is the tire? What car?

1980 rx7. The tires are like 3-4 years old as it was one of the 1st things I got when I started the build. I think I had lower tire pressure before when it hooked, so I'll probably try that again........

but is it safe running on like 20-25 PSI in the tire on the street?

I’d be really surprised if you had a 245/60/16. That is a really tall tire for a FB.

The tires being 3-4 years old isn’t helping.

It's tight, but thats the size. The fronts are smaller though.

I would think them being a little old would make them softer???

They grip less with age.

You need a BETTER tire, not all tires are equal. I can get 800rwhp to hookup with a good enough tire, so you shouldn't have an issue with less power on a good tire.
