Rx7 purchase attempt vin #jm1fd3316p0203358 - warning

Hi,

Just a heads up. I recently won (deposit) on ebay 1993 Rx7 with a ls2 conversion on ebay.

JM1FD3316P0203358Hi,

Just a heads up. I recently won (deposit) on ebay 1993 Rx7 with a ls2 conversion on ebay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-Mazda-....m43663.l10137

Upon completion, i trained to Baltimore from New York, stayed overnight, and went to see the car the following morning. The car had been represented as needing the typical completion of a 8 conversion (power steering, air). However, the seller represented the car as having a few small paint issues preventing it from being a 9 or a 10. I knew the front hood needed to be resprayed. However, he led me to believe that the paint other wise was spectacular. When I showed up, the paint was completely dull, over spray everywhere. The front bumper, front fenders, and hood were painted with spray paint can quality. It was the rest of the paint that was the problem...it was terrible and required a full paint. Further, the bumper and fenders were loosely hanging and not properly secured to the car. The exhaust banged loudly and scraped terribly on bumps. The doors did not close properly without many attempts. There were many rattles and shakes and the car was just awful. Significant fume intrusion in cabin. He also told me that everything was professionally installed. In person, he told me he did all the work himself with a friend.

Crazy thing is, the guy copped an attitude with ME. He literally came from around the block to meet me at a Starbucks. Here I traveled in, missed a day at work, and had to get a last minute train back to New York because of the misrepresentation of the car. I didn't completely insult the car in person because we were literally standing in a parking lot alone. I simply and lightly said it ws not what i expected and declined. He then sped off and I was there in the parking lot getting an UBER to Penn Station.

Now he is refusing to refund my deposit on ebay of (500) saying that it was not refundable because I changed my mind and the car was all he represented. He refuses to cancel the transaction stating it will tarnish his record of incomplete transactions. So now i need to deal with this as well.

Upon online research of the vin number further, I realized that this car had been for sale at least 3 times on eBay dating back to 2016( with 1 showing sold!). It was for sale with a worked rotary motor that he blew up.. I also found pictures of the car stating he was ready for "Watkins Glenn". The hood on the car was different (which he did disclose). He said he replaced it because he did not like the style. My guess is that it has been tracked quite a bit. It was quite beaten up. Upon inspection of the pay pal transaction , i see that payment was made to "Durst Automotive, LLC" making him a dealer. Further research of the name shows he is/was a Florida car dealer and might be in Maryland as well.

All in all a terrible ongoing experience. I guess if it was only to be a track car, it might be worth considering. BUT, not at this price for this condition.

I have been around the block with EBay since 1998 with approaching 2000 feedback selling AND buying. I have owned over 40 cars. So i have quite a lot of transactions to compare this one to.

Many of the pictures reveal the flaws you speak of. I can see on my screen that the paint is not high quality and that the body panels are off. I understand your dilemma, but in this case, buyer beware.

the link on ebay seems to go automatically to a similar car because it is a closed auction. Here is the correct link...

In my opinion the pictures look good, not great, but good. Only panel fitments that I noticed at a quick glance were the bumper to fender gaps, which look really rough. As far as paint goes you can see how bad it really is from the picture showing the reflection of the photographer in the front bumper. Honestly it is what it is... I can see if it was presented as a show car, but it’s not, and it’s defined as a 5-10 foot car. I don’t know the situation in person, or how it was described outside of Ebay through phone or text, but it seems like there was a disconnect from both parties. Still feel the deposit should be refunded.

He did describe the hood as needing attention and a little bit of orange peeling on the front bumper. Otherwise the paint is "really nice:. It was the rest of the paint and etc relating to condition everywhere that I was not expecting. The paint was not good at all.

He described the car as "a few small areas that are keeping from being a 9 or 10". Therefore, I thought only that needed attention. Overall, the car was VERY rough.

I don't see what the big deal is. I traveled from a far and was not satisfied. He should not try to keep my money. I already invested in 2 train tickets (one that was quite expensive because it was last minute), a hotel, a couple of Ubers, and a missed day at work. I am not even sure it is legal to keep my money (especially since he is a dealer).

While I feel your pain, (I drove from NC to NYC to buy a misrepresented FD), the pics of this one are pretty clear-cut. Front bumper looks like it was spray painted, panel gaps are horrendous, cluster from the donor car???, no heat, a/c, abs, nothing. No fender liners, I could go on.... Bigtime budget build. Again, I feel for you, but, you may not get your deposit back, the pics showed thoroughly it's a **** car.

I mean, sucks that the money was wasted, but details in the pics from the interior of the vehicle to the exterior shots have signs that it isn't a really well put together car. That along with the price. Any well done V8 swap is going to be $35K plus, something in the $20-25K range like this one should be expected to be $10k plus away from perfection.

Yeah so now he decided to relist it under a different ebay user ID to mask the tarnished feedback.

I know you feel like you got the shaft but you didn't exercise your due diligence as a purchaser. He was due the deposit.

Car was priced and described accurately, the first person who came to look at it after this guy realized it and bought it right on the spot.

This guy jerked me around for 2 weeks and wasted many hours of my time and money, it was obvious he did not read the ad or do his due diligence, was expecting a perfect car for half price. Ebay realized this as well and removed his unfair feedback from my account. I have 100% positive feedback, always strive to describe items accurately, this car was not perfect and I advertised it that way. This guy was a real jerk and only cared about himself, I have already wasted too much of my energy on this situation.

First of all, ebay removed the feedback because I didn't pay for the balance of the car. You refused to cancel the transaction. That is what they do in an unpaid case and you know it. So stop making up stories that eBay removed the feedback because of your holiness.

I have an open vpp protection case with them as we speak.

If you found someone to buy it, good for you.

I hope trying to keep my deposit after traveling to you 5 hours each way and staying overnight sits well with you. A normal person would feel bad that it was not as I expected or you described (as a dealer with a sales pitch) upon arrival and thst is why I decided not to purchase your car. You are morally empty and pointing fingers at me or calling me a jerk does not change that.

You live and you learn. Sometimes you learn not to trust and that not everyone has a moral compass in this world to do the right thing. I think your tone speak well to that.

The 500 bucks, if I don't get it back, was very well spent to not have to look at a pos in my garage...purchaaed from you. I have bought over 45 cars with little resistance in my time, so I guess I was due.

Congrata in your sale and the 500 donation to your loss...whatever that bs was.
