Not to beat a dead horse! V8 FD3S

Why havent people put a Ford 5.0 (302ci) into a FD3S yet. I see everything with ls1's and ls6 etc. I have seen FC's with the five liter. Its just my buddy has 4 95 cobra complete drivetrains from engine to rearend and ecu's and he wants to mess with my FD he will sell me parts mad cheap. he is a ford master mechanic so i feel comfortable with him workin on it. plus my RX gets like 8mpg and its an automatic. just want to know the reasons/ problems with the 302 mustang cobra engines. I know that the 04-05 modular v8s in the supercharged cobras are completely out of questions cause they are friggin huge. please leave you input
Tank

i would say scrap the v8 idea and just swap your transmision and just get a porting job and a big single turbo and stay with rotary:icon_tup:

I think that the look on a V8 drivers face when you beat his 5.0 liter with a 1.3 is def worth keeping it rotor!!!!!

Mr3plus1 05-09-07 08:09 PM

Ford sucks. Thats why.

NoDrySkin 05-09-07 08:09 PM

Because LS1 > all v8s within its price range.

^ditto^

Also, conversion parts are being made for the LSx, and not the Ford. So the LSx is way easier than the Ford.

It's already been figured out for you. Why forge a new path and end up with a poorer product for your trouble?

Mr3plus1 05-09-07 08:26 PM

Fords suck. Really. End discussion.

the FD already has a very capable motor, and great potential. To NOT put a LSx in there would be a downgrade from stock. In a FB or FC many people put the other V8 options in because it makes sense. Puting a 302 in an FD? come on!

FORD(Found On Road Dead)
FORD(Flip Over Re Do)
FORD(Fucked On Race Day)
In general.......fuck the ford

Why start out with an engine that makes less power and has less potential if there's not a significant weight penalty associated with using a larger displacement engine? Besides, there aren't many manual transmissions better than the T56.

I have seen FC's with the five liter.
Because typically, that's all FC owners can afford...

Perhaps, but it can't top the look on an ignorant rotary lover's face when you explain to him that his "1.3 liter" rotary actually consumes about as much air as a 2.6L piston engine, and that without forced induction his engine is just a loud, fuel-guzzling joke... :bigthumb:

Yeah, some people believe Ford cars, suck, and a lot of them do. That has nothing to do with the 5.0, which happens to be a spectacular small block engine. Not too mention the huge aftermarket following the engine has.. I know I'd have no problem myself building a 302 that could smoke any LSX engine no problem...

So why aren't Ford engines used in the 3rd gen? "......Unfortunatly, the Ford 5.0's oil pump is at odds with the RX-7's steering rack location. The best solution would be radical firewall surgery, but we do not feel this is practical for the typical conversion."

That's why. If it wasn't for that, the Ford engines would probably be installed much more than the LSX engines....

And all those those talking shit about Ford engines? They're just tired of their week LSx's getting smoked by 03/04 Cobra's on a regular basis.

Yeah, 20+ years ago when the best small block Chevy had was the L98.

Sure, no problem.

Unlikely. People don't pass up a 0.5-1.0 liter advantage unless their budget is making the decisions for them.

Take away the supercharger and let's see how badass Ford's premium sports car is...
