Hey guys

Im new here. I just registered so I could ask a few questions.

I know some people have been doing V8 swaps into FD RX7s, and Id like to know if any of you could point me to any websties that would give me soem more information on that subject. Or if any of you have done this yourselves, that would be great!

Id just like to know what is needed to be done for the swap? My instincts tell me that I would need a special driveshaft, and some other mounting hardware that would need to be fabricated.

The motor I would be looking to swap in would be just a basic small block chevy 350. I would like an LS1, but I doubt I could find one in my price range, since Im betting I would have ALOT of costs on materials to get the motor into the car in the first place..

As for weight distribution, Ive heard that a small block V8 is actually lighter than the rotary motor that comes with an FD. If anyone could validate that for me, Id appreciate it.

Anyways, I dont want to type out a novel, but if anyone could give me ANYTHING to help me research my idea for a project, I would really be thankful!

Why would you want to pull a perfectly good forced induction rotary out of an FD?

Rotaries belong in RX-7s, V8s belong in domestic iron :).

come on now guys!

I havent heard very good things towards the reliability of the rotories. Plus I know almost nothing about how a rotary works (jsut a basic idea of its engine cycles), and I already have a V8 block to build for it. If I did get one, I would probably drive it with the rotary untill the motor needed to be replaced. That way it would give me time to get everything else in order..

The reason I want to do that, is because I LOVE RX7s. But unfortunately they are so costly to repair, plus not many people know how to work on a rotary. Ive been trying to decide on my next project car, and as much as I loved an RX7, i just couldnt look past the weak points of its motor. Then I remembered hearing about an LS1 conversion, and asked on anOTher forum and they pointed me here!

Anyways, information would be helpful! :)

Unless you guys could of course, send me some information on building a SOLID rotary engine. Im willing to look at just about any options. I respect your guys opinions, and I know to some of you, dropping a V8 into an RX is just about the worst thing you could do to one. (well, I guess you could get worse, like a 3 cyl geo metro motor :p: )

Anyways, like I said before, I would still appreciate info on a V8, but i wouldnt mind some info on building a rotary that WONT blow.

BTW - sorry for this post. Before I made it and it got moved, I looked for anything to do with a V8 conversion, but couldnt find anything. I never thought there would be a "motor swap" category behind "Rotary Performance"

Solid and FD rotary don't usually end up in the same sentence. www.hinsonsupercars has all the info you need.
