granny swap kit info.

Ok im sick of my Mazda right now and have decided v8 is the way to go. I have decided on a 5.0 out of a 89 foxbody or 351 out of a crown Vic either way mated to a t5. my only question is, if I get the granny deluxe kit w/ ps and clutch master and slave what else would I need to make it run. Or more to the point make it drivable.

Nobody has any experience with this?

Drive line. Radiator set up, are you staying efi or going carbed? I did a 93 efi swap using the granny kit. I was not pleased one bit with the fitment of the kit, the motor sat way to high and I had to cut and shim the hood up to fit.

efi and i was gonna pick up the deluxe kit that came with all of it and how much shimming is necessary.

I think it was a good 1/2in, but I also droped the subframe a 1/2 as well. To get it running it was maybe 5 wires if that. Ill see if I can hunt down some pictures.

hmm well im debating on this swap or the tech2 1jz swap as for price this one would be it hands down so if clearance is the only issue i think that might be the way id have to go.

Height was my only issue with the granny kit. My issue with the motor swap in general was the gearing of the t5 matched with the fc rear end, never used first gear cause it was just like a granny gear in a truck and going down the freeway was really high reved. The car was fun to drive around town though.

thanks man i appreciate the insight this is definitely the way im gonna go then.

For the price the best swap there is a LS swap by far! A LS swapped car will run circles around a 5.0 or 351 swapped car and the engines are very easy to work with. Also if u ever go to sell the car LS swapped cars go for high prices and are very easy to sell.

maybe he doesnt want to spend ls1 swap money

Almost done with my 302 swap, kit is ok but not great, refer to other people's issues

For a project build, a 5.0 and t5 is going to be pleanty of power. compared to an ls1, less power but considerably less expensive and there is huge potential for performance in a 5.0. if you use an efi motor dont forget to pull the ecu and wiring harness. i think dollar for dollar the 5.0 is a good option for those of us on a budget. or another good option is gm 5.3 lq4 very easy to find based on an ls1 can be had for 500 bucks running. tons of torque and maybe even easier to get then 5.0 ford in junk yards anyway. still have the problem with t-56 transmissions costing 1200 bucks with over a hundred thousand miles on the clock.

and dont forget about weight, the ford motor and trans weight in over 200 lbs less than lsx motors. not huge but significant. comparing the t5 to t56 i dont know numbers but the t5 sure looks smaller i would imagine that t5 weighs in less too.

I have a 351 that came from a `83 Crown Vic. so it has the right oilpan. It has a 2-barrel carb on it now so it would run in my `76 F-100, where it is now. I would prefer local delivery as it has been sitting for a while and the alcohol gas has gone bad. Turns over and ran great. It has a points distributor so very little wiring and is in with a granny-gear 4-speed...$500 plus shipping and aggravation???
