Fun

Evening all,

FYI for the peeps who do the flames.. ;)
I have several rotaries, including a 86 Sport with a Wolf 3.0, and am doing another 86 with a bridgeport and Wolf 4.x, a TII with a Wolf, and a host of mods, as well as building EvilAviators 20B :D

ANYHOW.... a casual friend came to me some months back to GIVE ME a 84 RX that he didnt have anywhere to put, cause he was getting a divorce like RIGHT NOW... and needed to get rid of it. I at the time had 9 RX's at the time and REALLY didnt need another.
However.. as the price was FREE.... I said.. /sigh Well... At that point he said it had a 302 with a FMX tranny... and No title.. Track only/Drag only.. Hmm... OK Brang it.

Turns out it was a almost completed 302 conversion. Motor is a DOG from a 84 Thunderchicken. 2 Barrel Carb, and POINTS dizzy. EEK!!!

Anyhow.. Reason for this post is... The silliness/joy of Torque.. LOL

I got the thing together enough to drive last weekend. Fuell cell hard lines, new starter etc... etc..

Thing has manifolds and short stacks pointing to the ground.. and is to say the least LOUD... Not Bridgeported RX-3 Loud.. but still LOUD.

When put in gear... with the PARKING BRAKE applied.. and the brakes to the floor.. there is a squeaking noise... that is the rear tires overpowering the rear Drums. and the tires squeaking with each burble of the engine.. In reverse is is MUCH worse.. .they slowly squeak around as the front tires gently skid backwards.

Pulling into the parking lot next to my house.... I then stopped.. and decided to let it eat.

MUCH NOISE! The brakes are off etc.. but the car doesnt move. The tranny shifts 1-2-3.. real quick, as the rear tires become totally obliterated.. These are STOCK size tires on the 13" rims. The car SLOWLY starts to rotate as the rear end torques to the right.. and it starts slowly moving forward. (FYI the car it COMPLETELY gutted. Driver seat and steering shaft/wheel.. and a starter button/kill switch... did I mention drag?)
At this point I am feathering the throttle to not throw parts on the ground.. as the tire noise starts changing as they get heated.. to some extent... and the car starts to bite.... Ummmmm There is a building at the far end of the lot.....:(
As I start to let off the car begins to bite.. I am not sure what happens at that point.. but it suddenly starts to hook up, as I let off and go for the brakes... The car then lurches forward and I am across the lot in a blink, while Hard on the binders.. which work fine.... :p:

I then proceed to turn around and put it back in the garage quickly before the local Police come to ask WTH I am doing..

It is a REALLY different experience from the Rotary 8K wheel spinning, screaming, tire burining that I am used to.

NON Granies conversion.. was done by the original owner.. Engine and trannie mounts were done when I got it.. and the enging/tranny in.. but not hooked up.

Helluva interesting thing... I am still a rotary fan.. and I still live to road-race.. SCCA etc... But have to say.. It should be interesting with this 302 at the local 1/8th mile..
