Do's and Don'ts for LS1/t56 FD owner.
 

Hi guys. Well, this Sunday I will be purchasing a 94 Fd with an als1/t56 combo from a torquecentral member. The car puts down a little over 390WHP untunned.

I owned an 93 before, it was mostly stock. I was wondering, what can I expect from the car, I've never driven an LS1 FD. Also, what parts break the most on these cars (the hybrid V8's)? I was told to, if possible, to change the stock diferential for a Kaaz one. What can I do to beef up the rear end? I don't want to start breaking parts right away. This will be a 1/4 mile car as there aren't any autocross tracks around here.

With a kaaz diff and upgraded axels, there are guys on 700+hp and 1.3 60's.

Id do the bushings to make sure you have no wheelhop.

Other than that, there are no known problems.

im not sure if this pertains to the 3rd gen but the hinson torque arms had a small recall on them because of bad welds (only units made for a certain date) , if it was done with a hinson swap i would ask just to be sure he got the memo

Probably the best option for strengthening the rear end, and more gear ratio options. Ends nov. 4th.

Jim is saying that his cradle is in no way an all out drag racing instrument. I am looking for that, so my best bet will be the axles and Kaaz. Thanks guys

nylon/poly diff bushings and RE trailing arms

The car is in the body shop getting some Pettir racing flares and a GT front end, oh and a new coat of paint. With it come some nice Forgeline 12.5" wheels on the back :)

So far, as far as suspension goes, I have added Rotary Performance's trailing links and toe links, and Pettit Racing's differential bushings. Will put the Kaaz and axles once I get more money.

Jodeny sells the axles for $530 (his screen name on here). Wise choice as they have been low 9's on the RX-7.com FD. Maybe even 8's.

Kazz rear LSD is the strongest. Read the thread on here how to set it up so it isn't full locker or the noise around corners and vibration will drive you mad.

Put the 6 new rear pillow balls in the rear suspension and delrin differential bushings would be a wise choice.

If you are going to drag race the stock 4:10 or 3:90 gears with upgraded LSD will be perfect. Raise your rev limiter and you will have plenty of room in 4th to cross the line going 140mph+.

The JimLab rear diff/cradle setup is $2K, and is really only needed if you have a motor making lots of power and are limited by traction (street tires vs. slicks). However once you install a Kazz ($750+) and 300M axles ($530) you aren't that far away.

I plan to take my 3:90 diff, T2 LSD, 300M axle rear into the 9's this winter on ET Streets and a NX150hp shot with cam/heads/headers LS1.

Does anybody see the need for the Kaaz and cromoly axles for a strictly roadrace/auto-x LS1/2 FD? I have no plans for drag racing.

Plenty of people get along fine with the stock rear. Depends how much power you are looking to make though....

Thanks, I plan on nothing more then long tube headers. I will want to keep it emissions friendly, so there will be cats, probably hi-flow/metallic cats. I have no intention of opening the engine up. I think that answers my question though. :)
