Exhaust finally done!

I will post a video in a bit. It was kept intentionally fairly quiet.

gear_grinder 12-21-13 02:33 PM

86svo9l 12-22-13 05:43 PM

Sorry for the late response.

It is a Griffin 1-25182-X.

gear_grinder 12-22-13 06:06 PM

thanks!

Been sitting on this video for a few weeks now, lol.

Here it is after the new exhaust.

I have Pez engine mounts, the rest of the kit is Ronin Speedworks. Great stuff and well worth the money.

For now it is running on an FD pump. I have a Aeromotive stealth 340 to install once I get it out of storage.

Truck pan will not work unless you heavily modify it. You will need an F body pan.

I purchased the wiring from a guy whos speed shop went under...

Well it is out of storage and safely at home. So hopefully I will have some fresh updates soon.

Slowly getting this thing to actually look like a car. Need to find a couple more things and wash it. But it should be at least presentable sometime in the near future.

Snapped a couple pictures today.

New windshield. Now to fix the roof and a few other areas. Maybe one day give it a legit paint job...

Not to much of an update. Worked on my brakes a bit. Went with a Bronze finish.

One thing I have to say about the car now that I have had it on DD duty the last few weeks. It actually runs and drives remarkably well. Now that the rough edges are mostly smoothed out it is not different than driving any other car, except when nailing the throttle or hitting a curve. It has been very reliable and has been getting decent fuel mileage. The ride is about as good as some newer cars I have driven (Stock T2 suspension), feels well planted and not on the verge of losing control like I had expected.

Only complaint I have is there is far to much road noise going on. Need to pick up some sound deadening material and install it over trouble areas.

Went out to Hawkeye downs today for a track day. Learned a lot about the car and had a lot of fun. Not the greatest driver in the world, but I plan to go to a lot more events and try to correct anything I learn for the next time.

Bored, so I figured it was time for a quick recap after the first 3000 miles.

Car has been very fun, gets driven every day, rain or shine. New tires took care of the majority of my road noise :) . My stock truck engine mixed with the FC chassis was enough to run similar times to the C5 vettes around the road course. Nothing has broke yet, even after several weekends of serious abuse, but the stock NA rear is sounding like it has hit the end of the line. We shall see how long it continues.

Only down side is that the car does not look great and manages to get vandalized almost any time I park in a lot. Never have had a car get vandalized as much as this one! Glad now that I did not spend any money on a nice paint job. Could care less about the vandalism, the only one that really pissed me off was when someone tried to break in the drivers door lock with a flat head screw driver, now I can no longer lock it with a key and have to lock it from inside.

Plans for the future will be a cam swap, headers and some better flowing mufflers. Maybe over the winter an aluminum block swap to cut front end weight.

As it sits now!

I suppose no news is good news.

Still driving it every day. Still having a great time with it.

I changed from having an open PCV system to a closed system. Brazed a nipple onto the intake tube and sealed it all up. Probably spend a little more time over the winter making it look nicer. It definitely idles better now, plus no more fumes after a nice hard beating. Other than that I have only really had to do general upkeep. Been very low maintenance.

I have decided to not do anything major to it until winter comes around. Then it will get the T2 rear diff(NA is sounding real rough these days), Mandeville style front brake setup, typical LS engine mods, and if I feel froggy an aluminum block swap(Not likely).

Everyone loves pictures. Here is my progress, spent a couple hours in the garage today.

Just have to install the intake manifold and radiator. Then it will be driving once again.

And now it is tucked into its corner of the garage for the cold season. Not sure what projects I want to do over the winter. Only time will tell.

This winter has managed to keep me busy on other projects. But I have not been idle with the car entirely.

Picked up a new cam and spring set up. Hoping that the bigger cam softens the low end torque a bit. I will also be grabbing a better rim and tire combo sometime before spring.

Attachment 629515

Decided to make a quick startup and rev video in anticipation of warmer weather and for comparison after the cam is installed.

vxturboxv 03-09-15 03:21 PM

Looks fun! My alum 5.3 was pretty ballsy compared to the dished piston 5.3 I ran prior. What cam did you go with?

86svo9l 03-09-15 04:03 PM

Thanks!

I went with a Trickflow Trackmax Stage 3(228/230 duration) and Brian Tooley dual springs. Should be a nice mild cam for running around town and hitting the occasional Autox course.

Cam installation has started. Decided to make some lifter retainer tools, seemed like a decent $3 investment for the level of security it added. Ran out of daylight so will finish up in the next couple days.

Also a better video of it idling after mods. Got trapped in some rain on the way home from work. Ended up getting the car dirty before the video.

Not much of an update. But I have started gathering parts for the winter tear down. Swapping over to an L33 rotating assembly for increased compression and the stronger gen4 rods. Going to stick with the stock LM4 heads with smaller chambers and do some porting on them. Also the stock clutch I have been using is about to its end, so probably be looking at swapping that as well.

So to summarize this winter will be more compression, better flow, new bearings, new clutch, also going to reloom, cleanup and hide wiring. May get more involved then that, but who knows.

My thoughts exactly.

It wonder what ever happened to this ride.

Joethefo 09-12-18 12:59 PM

Im currently sourcing a LS and t56 to do this swap to a 91 NA. Any advice?

I have a mechanical background, but its going to be a budget build as i am also rebuilding my turbo 2's rotary engine.

its a pretty straight forward swap surprisingly. With a good mechanical background and proper tools, the only other thing you should need is a pair of extra hands here and there. Took about 2-3 weeks from rolling the shell off the trailer to having it roadworthy (though that didn’t include pulling the old rotary drivetrain) and neither of us had done an LS swap before.
