5.0/302 fc swap???

Alright more and more that I research I am getting the v8 swap bug. Would love to do a ls/t56 combo but where I live they are pricey as hell. So comes the 302 ho/t5 combo, I can basically get the while setup for under $800 and with the granny swap kit I'm looking at under less then 2gso far.
Now comes my problem the wire harness conversion what does everyone that has done the 5.0 swap done for the harness conversion and ecu? I have found write ups for the fb but nothing for a fc. If there is one for the fc then I know I can do the harness myself but until then is there anyone out there that does the harness conversion?

grannysspeedshop.com then click manual, 2nd gen RX-7 / Ford V8 Installation Instructions On-line. click that and you will find the installaion as well as the wiring, etc. its the 6th one down in the mauals section.

I have this swap. with agranny speed shop kit. the kit sucks soooo bad. just make your own mounts. also you will be dissapointed with a stock 5.0. they are slow and suck, I know cuz thats what I have. take that 2g. save it and wait till you have another 2k and buy an ls swap.

do you have efi or carb?
i've rebuilt many 5.0s and they ran great.settings(timing,plug gap,air/fuel mixure,ect) a make a big difference.you might want to recheck everything.

i think youll be just fine satal95. just do your homework ane figure out what you really want to do with the car.then picking a motor is easy. any small block ford or chevy will be reliable and have good power to weight (ford combo is lighter).both can be bored n stroked for cheap. or keep it stock with a bigger camshaft(do your homework and don't go too big).bigger is not always better

I run a 302 in a 86 GXL with an Edelbrock 600 carb.
Non roller - basically stock / .065 overboar / Zenati rv torque cam
Pro rebuilt recurved EI distributor / Hyfire 6a ig box.

It's not the fastest, but it's not the slowest either.

The advantage is the lighter weight than a 350 sbc.
The balance on the vehicile is really good.
The 302 only adds about 50 lbs to the vehicle, and can be easily offset by easy changes-
aluminum heads / relocate the battery - put mine in the storage boxes behind the seats - worked perfect.

I used the Granny's kit as well and had no real issues with the install using the kit.
The 302 fits very easily in the engine bay.

I spent under 2k for a very killer car that others either love or hate . .
Be prepared to have to talk to people everywhere you go to talk about your car . . .
Verdict - I would do it again in a heart beat.
It's not the fastest, but man it's fun to drive!!

You can go to cardomain.com, and look for BlackEvil in the search . . over 100 pics.

Unless your wanting over 500hp 302 is a nice little motor to start out with. The blocks tend to crack after that. I have one in my 86 with a carb. Mine kept popping my computer. Someone had it wired it up when I bought it and they left all the old wiring in the car as well... so I spent a couple months getting all that out. Just take your time don't get aggravated and keep us updated.

Not sure if you're still looking for info, but I think the best option is to take the factory Ford harness with you. It requires a couple of lines from in the cluster, but it's the neural net your 5.0 was born with. I love mine this way.
