302 Ford to 1st Gen
Seriously thinking about a 302/AOD setup in an '82 RX7.
Anyone have any advice about V8 swapping in the early RX chassis? |

You can find several posts I have made on this subject if you just do an "advanced search" for my posts. Start with this one:

I highly recommend a brake upgrade with all the extra power: www.cardomain.com/ride/646433 By all means use an electronic AOD, or you will waste a lot of time trying to get the old mechanical one to shift properly. I had both Baumann and Transgo shift kits in mine, went to the best tranny shops in the Seattle area, can't find anyone who understands this transmission. The tech people at Baumann and Transgo could not answer even the most basic questions about controlling the shifts on this gearbox. Of course, they will not tell you they don't know, just try to baffle you with BS. You can buy an aftermarket control box to control the later electronic gearboxes. I built everything myself, but if you are not a really good fabricator, Granny's kit will save you a lot of time. Let me know if you have questions, maybe you can avoid some of my mistakes! |

If I do the project, I will use the old style (90-93 era) AOD, but it'll use a LenTech manual shift valve body. Think clutchless stick shift. Thanks for the links.
