2011 5.0 crate motor in an fc?

im thinking of putting in a 2011 5.0 ford v8 crate motor im my 1986 na fc (468 hp / 410tq) outside testers got this number at the flywheel not the wheels of the new mustang.
engine weight i know is gonna be around 443 so not much heavier then what it would take to get this kinda power. and yes i know wont be 50/50 anymore so haters can just keep hating.
transmission i am gonna go with a t56 (bell housing is the same as the old 4.6l v8's)
get a t2 rear end
custom drive shaft
i can get the wiring harness and ecu intake gas pedal (the new mustangs use drive by wire) for the crate motor.
radiator
custom motor mounts
luckily the motor is rear sump so hopefully i wont have to do too much cross member modifying. (i know i am still gonna have to do it but im hoping not to make a complete custom one.)
fuel pump
exhaust
im hoping to use my current brake master cylinder and clutch but i might have to use after market ones that put the inside the cab (dohc v8 might not fit next to the booster)
i have no ps as it is and no ac but i think im gonna put ac back in but i can have that done at a shop.
i can weld so im not too worried about stuff that i need to fabricate.

suspension would be the usual coilovers bushings camber links (im not the hella flush type. i like tires that fit the wheel and fender (wide body fc2000.))
gonna use evo brakes up front and stock t2 calipers outback and of course a portioning valve

so in the v8 theme i was also thinking of converting it in to a truck
i actually have a good idea on how to make a tail gate on one of these. but thats all if i want to do the truck idea.

if you see anything im missing please do tell. questions on how are great as it gets me thinking ahead of time and i write my ideas down too.

haters post if you want to im not gonna respond to anything. i want this thread to be productive and about this swap dont just day just do this its cheaper (i like to be different and explore the unexplored)

and cost yea i know what all this costs so ya that could be left out.

70/30 chance i do this.

bosscobra 05-15-11 04:00 PM

i vote yes, havent seen it done, be the first

rotary-guy 05-15-11 05:01 PM

Do it, but I can tell you the brake booster is gonna limit how far back you can put the motor, its basically the same size as the 4.6, but if you go with the booster relocation then slam that sucker all the way back and have 3/4 of it behind the front wheels like I did with my 4.6. Good luck, I want to see it done.

sunburn 05-16-11 08:51 AM

Would be cool... but a big expense.

Why not just go LS3 or LS7? well documented swap with tons of aftermarket out there already.

arghx 05-16-11 09:00 AM

I know you said you can get the harness and all but does Ford sell an actual plug-and-play solution for the engine management? Like does it come with everything and is it set up in such a way that it wouldn't go into fault mode? On newer cars lots of stuff runs on a data bus, it's not like swapping an SR20 into a 240 or something.

Has anyone done a swap of this motor into any platform yet?

digitalsolo 05-16-11 10:21 AM

Hood clearance, firewall clearance, header fitment, high initial cost, limited tuning/control options.

Yeah, probably not happening.

Agreed:icon_tup:

and I'm all about stuffing whatever you can in there!

dr phyco 05-16-11 02:56 PM

this thing will fit i know that ive already taken measurements.

ya i could go ls3 or something like that but its all been done before and i like to be different.

actually yes the "control pack comes with ecu, harness, intake including maf, and gas pedal because it is drive by wire. this isnt something that i just thought of ive been thinking about putting one of these in this or a 240z.

last but not least if i do this it will be a very highly detailed thread.

and again guy please dont just say ya probably wont happen unless you know see the future. which if you can can you tell me how the stock market is going to be in 3 years.

dr phyco 05-16-11 07:29 PM

ls3 i dont like mainly because it uses push rods and they dont like high rpms like dohcs do. it costs more (roughly the same power) its heavier too by like 60 lbs if i remember right. and the 5.0 gets ok mpg 19/26 in the mustang. ive already figured out the gearing and the fact that im gonna have to cut the tran tunnel most likely

vosko 05-16-11 07:39 PM

you are a baller if you can afford a brand new 11 crate 5.0!

dr phyco 05-17-11 01:38 AM

i can get it much cheaper then the msrp that FRP wants.

dr phyco 05-18-11 11:31 PM

hmm well if my measurements are right i have to put the motor back in to the fire wall 2-3 inches because of the intake. well i thought i was gonna have to moddify the tunnel anyways.

My crystal ball says you're dreaming. By all means, prove me wrong.

I'll resurrect this thread in a year to say "Told you so".

dr phyco 05-24-11 04:57 PM

ummm ok well ive already sold my fc and ive decided to drop this motor in a 240z. i have the motor sitting in my garage im just waiting on some other stuff to come in. like my new welder and some metal to start making mounts. i also need to get a 24z shell. so im not gonna do the build thread here unless people want me too which i am fine with. i just cant feel right putting a v8 in to an rx7 they are cool and all i just believe rx7s should have rotaries in them. so you can be a hater then in a year come back and say i told you so but still just proves my point that anyone who cont do this type of stuff just hates.

rotary-guy 05-24-11 11:06 PM

ugh i wanted to see this done, fail.

dr phyco 05-24-11 11:16 PM

its not 100% out but im leaning towards 240z cause it will be much easier for hood clearance. well i haven't measure but ive seen so tall ass motors in them. but this motor is also very wide. were talking almost 3ft wide with exhaust mani's. so i know it will fit in an fc but if i do find one its gotta be a clean t2 shell so i dont have to deal with as much of stuff. but in the long run the 240z is gonna cost me about 25k and the fc if i get a clean t2 shell i can make it only cost about 14-16k so i am taking that in to consideration. and or if someone has an fd with sparco evo 3 (im a big dude) seat that could let me see how i fit in to one i might think about one of those.

Can't do?

Like my FC?

Or the TT LS/FD I'm working on?

BTW, it's spelled "can't", I already DID, and you quit. Oh, and I told you so.

dr phyco 05-25-11 04:46 PM

Okay dude we know you know how to do this but doesn't change the fact you are still a hater. I cant type sometimes because half the time I'm on my phone. You don't need to be negative about it. If you have bad comments just leave them too yourself. No need to make your self feel bigger then you are by putting other people down. Big whoop about putting in an ls motor in an rx7 go count how many times its been done.

How many twin turbo LS1/FDs are there setup for A/C? One. How many fully streetable turbo LS1/FCs? 5-6, maybe.

I'm not a hater, I own a fucking measuring tape. I didn't say it couldn't be done, I noted that it's a very complex and involved swap, and the engine is not well suited for the chassis. I did say you weren't going to do it, so I guess I'm 2 for 2. People like you show up all the time. One in 1000 actually start their swap, and less than that see it to completion.

If I'm a hater, you're a retard. At least I don't need velcro shoes.

gearhead670 05-30-11 08:05 AM

wow even the people that swap v-8 engines in rx7 hate on each other -geesh --to get space for the transmission tunnel (if you keep the pan close to the crossmember and still dont have enough room) you can space the sub frame away from the body -but if you do this you will have to change the steering joint and space the struts down the same as you spaced the subframe----and by the way i just saw a show on t.v. that 2 young kids live at home with their parents and spend every dime on cars pay no rent and are nasty mean.sounds like that might apply here? but only one kid----this site is suppose to be helpfull to other people not a look what i can do forum.

dream36realms 05-30-11 08:42 AM

Jeesh if you actually pull this off man, I swear I will put a viper V10 in mine. Of course then I would have to sell off all my LS parts :(

...probably still way more than I'd ever want to spend on an FC.

EDIT: Opps. Should have read first. DigitalSolo made me laugh.

When someone acts like a fool, I call them out on it, pretty simple concept. Go read the "I'm going to do this!" posts in this section. It's a joke. And I'm not even close to actually being mean to anyone here.

Not sure if the lives at home was directed toward me. I own my own home and have for many years. If I lived with my parents I'd own a couple Ferraris or something, being a grown up is expensive.

And, not directed at the quote above, as I noted before you CAN fit it in the car. That doesn't make it a good idea. There are many other platforms which would make more sense from all angles. It's a BAD idea, I think that's a pretty simple concept to understand. Someone send me an engine and a bunch of cash and I'll build you one, that still makes it a BAD idea.

Now excuse me, I'm going to go drive my V8 RX7.

frijolee 05-31-11 02:28 PM

Damn Blake,

A couple posts above remind me of Jimlab a little bit.

That said, to the OP. Solo is pretty much right on. The DOHC nature of the new 5.0 makes clearance everywhere, a bitch and a half. It's not at all that we don't like weird swaps, it's just that doing something really unconventional means you're in for 3x the headache and heartburn. The lsx series of motors make great power, package extremely well, in a variety of applications, offer solid reliability (at least once you add an accusump).

BTW anyone who dismisses pushrods out of hand is ignorant and reads too much Modified Magazine. Similarly, anyone who can't see the advantages of fuel injection is a crumudgeonly old fart. Think for yourself people.

dr phyco 05-31-11 02:50 PM

oh i know push rods are great but i have always like doing the odd thing and giving myself a challenge. the more and more solo keeps going on just makes me want to do this more. money Isn't an issue because I've been saving up like a responsible person. I've wanted to build something like this now for about 2 years. i don't really care what solo says anymore. ya a DOHC will dive me up a wall but i like the challenge.
