At the begining of the Video it says Haltech E6K on pump gas.

Nice. Looks like it goes pretty good...

I wanna drive on a track. :(

Turblown 12-21-10 11:01 PM

Track takes a lot of work. Nothing like 10 minutes above 5k rpms at WOT.

We added a 3.5" midpipe/downpipe, a smaller Garrett FMIC, new bushings, an inconel LIM heatshield, and a few other goodies. Turbo also smoked itself running a turbo blanket that time around. What works on the street, doesn't always work at the track.. Going back soon for more fun....

junito1 12-22-10 03:50 PM

the feedback that comes from the track is priceless.

And what do you mean by the turbo smoked itself with a turbo blanket..? IT ran hot because of the blanket and went kaput?

2slow4stock 12-22-10 05:42 PM

I am interested in how the turbo went out as well. By all the heat?

Turblown 12-22-10 08:45 PM

Yes, the turbo blanket contains too much heat, and the turbo cooked itself. If you look around the single turbo section there are other people reporting the same thing. Turbo blankets were designed for diesel engines that run considerably cooler.

What A/R turbine housing are you using here?

Turblown 01-14-11 10:21 PM

Its using a 1.15.

I wouldn't recommend that size for a smaller track like this on an FC engine, unless you have all your ducks in a row. As in; full ignition, big exhaust, divided turbo turbo manifold with the correct size tubing, and a engine with great compression.

We did a bunch more mods, going back out tomorrow. Got another FD we built going with too...

BeauNC 01-14-11 10:47 PM

What do you consider a big exhaust?

What would you say is the proper sized turbine housing for a car that will see street duty, tight race tracks, as well as tracks like VIR with a 4000ft straight away?

I'm really liking this TD61 turbo from threads I've read.

A 1.0 will work for most people. Its good up to 20psi, as long as you're not revving past 8k rpms.
That is what I would recommend for your needs also...

I must say, I'm vary impressed with those dyno number on pump gas even with the water/alcohol injection. Thats one hell of a tune

By the way, seen the video of your Rx-8 on streetfire yesterday, great job on that as well!
