stock turbo + 9psi = 250whp sweet!

took my TII to a dyno on saturday.. my first time and i was pretty surprised! Mods in sig, stock S4 TII block, S5 turbo with ported wastegate, i have about 10% fuel taken out from the stock map at full boost (thats with the 750/1000cc injector combo, so its really about 50% more fuel than stock)

im running off the wastegate spring for now, on the dyno in 3rd, it peaked at 9 lbs around 5500 and dropped off to 7psi at 6500. AFRs were around 12, timing around 25 deg at full boost. ambient temps were around 80F, the intake temps dropped from 102 when i first started to 93F at redline, go ebay IC! :)

i kinda let off too early, it looks like it was still making power

nice numbers

idsigloo 04-29-07 07:54 PM

you dyno'd in 3rd for what reason? 4th is 1.0 ratio.

i thought i would have boost creep problems, what is the difference between 3rd and 4th on a dyno? could it affect the results? I asked the guy and he said it wouldnt matter

junito1 04-29-07 08:35 PM

hmm im not sure... but gearing effects torque???

can someone verify my statement?

skatingsamurai 04-29-07 09:55 PM

you have an ebay FMIC??? how much did your set up cost you?

hatemy7 04-29-07 11:06 PM

nice

Nice numbers...so is it fast???

Silverfc88 04-29-07 11:22 PM

Nice numbers! What do you have the Rtek preset at for initial fuel setup? 550/720 or 720/720?

Yeah I don't know if it does matter if you dyno in 3rd or 4th? I know when I go and do it in either gear the numbers are identical. 4th gear for me shows more horsepower and torque readings though, but only about 2-4 points on both.

idsigloo 04-29-07 11:57 PM

The point of gears is to multiply the torque of the engine. If you use a lower gear then you are multiplying the actual torque. The point of using 4th gear is because its a 1.0 ratio. Meaning the rpms of the engine is the same as the wheels so you have a more accurate reading. You are not making 250whp on 9psi on a stock s4t2 block. im sorry. go back and dyno in 4th gear and post your results.

I Dyno'd 3rd and made 233, dyno'd 4th, and made 240. 250 is really decent when you are still using the AFM.

idsigloo 04-30-07 12:29 AM

i was talking to someone and he said if the dyno has a correction map for that gear then it will be accurate. but you need to make sure its set for the correction map. but you will see a difference between different gears when pulling. you need to find out if they corrected it. but i dont see how a stock s4 t2 block with a stock turbo at 9psi is going to make anywhere near 250whp. either you don't know something about your engine or the dyno was not corrected.

gxl90rx7 04-30-07 06:41 AM

my friend with an S5 n/a (intake/2.5" exhaust/streetported) dyno'd the same day and got 131 whp, he did a 3rd gear run too. i would say that is accurate, if anything too low. The guy running the dyno owns a 400+hp FD, so i would assume he knows the right correction?

thanks! im using 720/720, with +10% fuel added in boost

its a 20x9" core, bar&plate type, i think it cost $200. the complete FMIC setup ran me about $500, including piping, couplers, greddy tb adapter, etc

ya... I'm not convinced.

junito1 04-30-07 03:41 PM

i think its possible that a good condition tII with intake/exhaust/intercoolet/And all small mods. like emmisions/tb mod/E. fan/no cat/etc. on an Semi EMS like rtek. Big enough injectors(which he does)

250 whp is very possible.

WHat brand injectors are you using by the way?

Nismo Convert86 04-30-07 04:43 PM

I made 240 on stock pump, injectors, tmic, stock turbo, and 10-11psi. It was corrected as well.

I wouldn't recommend this setup for people who don't know much, I ran it like this for about a year and a half before the Jspec let go.

gxl90rx7 04-30-07 04:47 PM

the injectors are RC engineering. it also has the TB mod, no emissions, mildly ported UIM/LIM, bruce turrentine rebuild with ~50k, RA seals

GohtretFC 04-30-07 05:28 PM

131 on an N/A especially one streetported and with exhaust seems way to low. Completely stock they made more than that I thought.

NoviceRotaryTech. 05-01-07 01:37 PM

Hey, (131 rwhp) that would be me.
I believe "stock" s5 N/A's make 160 at the flywheel, minus 15% drive train loss = 136 rwhp.
So, yeah, mines low. wtf?
But whatever, I'm saving the time and money on my project rx7 ('87 gxl). Ive read that they can get up to around 160-200 at the wheels. Im going to try an do everything as far as modifying and increasing HP goes, paying attention to the details, etc.

Bravo on the 250 rwhp, btw.

13b4me 05-01-07 01:44 PM

Haha and NOPR called me a liar when I made my 250whp claim on the stock turbo @ 9psi. (Unfortunately I lost the dyno sheet to prove it) :)

My mods were:

streetported S5 TII block
S5 TII manifolds and turbo (ported wastegate)
S4 wiring, front cover, AFM
stock ECU
SAFC
Greddy ProfecB
550cc primaries 850cc secondaries
stock TMIC
emissions removed
3" straight turboback
etc
etc

Nice numbers!

junito1 05-01-07 03:38 PM

^^ whats so much better about s5 intake manifolds?

13b4me 05-01-07 04:13 PM

They have slightly larger runners, but the gains are negligable. I was just listing my setup, for the most part anyways.

StarScreaM2k1 05-01-07 06:44 PM

Nice numbers... i love it when even when people have a dyno sheet they still dont believe you. I think we also need a pint of blood, a sample of the oil you used, maybe some apex seals for good measure... LOL good numbers tho... gives me hope for my current setup!

heheh thanks

well it makes no difference to me, i didnt do it for bragging rights (well maybe a little :icon_tup: ). i just wanted a baseline dyno before i get the turbo sent off for BNR stage 3. Im going to try run the same boost on the BNR and get it dyno'd again so ill have some nice before/after numbers :)

Nismo Convert86 05-01-07 08:47 PM

The only reason to dyno a car is for Bragging rights. ;)
