stock rx7

i just bought an 88 drop top rx7 in great condition... one owner... always maintained... garage kept in California.

I haven't taken it to the strip or tested its abilities yet and i was just wondering how my stock rx7 would do racing with the new performance vehicles of the day

junito1 02-04-08 06:47 AM

horribly.

You have 145 hp motor and a 2900 lbs car.

But it sounds like a beautiful ride.

A stock RX-7 in great condition matches pretty evenly with moderate sports cars. Civic Si, BMW 3-series, Celicas, etc.

Significantly faster than wannabes like Integras/RSXs, Mazda3's, etc. Quite a bit slower than the top end like the RX-8, s2000, 350z, etc.

the stock convertibles, especially the S4's, aren't that fast in a straight line.

Bottom line: It's fun to drive, but if you think you're going to be destroying things at stoplights, you should consider a turbo motor or v8 swap. :P

fc vert is a bit of a pig. its not a match for a current si, not by a long shot. its not really a match for the previous generation si either.

still a fun car to own though. take care of her!

Did eric just say a civic Si was a sports car?????????

:nono:

It will hold up well as long as you maintain it but we're talking about a different sense of "hold up well" here.

Jr., the vert IS NOT 2900 lbs. Closer to 3200.

Si.....!!!!

Killert2 03-06-08 10:50 PM

what would a 86 with a s5 stock turbo engine make then??

junito1 03-07-08 10:56 AM

I believe the 86's were the lightest. With a 13b-t. your good to go buddy.

I had a 86 n/a. great condition, real strong and so I thought fast motor. Then I sold it and got a 87 Turbo II. All it took was two shifts and I was sold. Dont bs just go get a Turbo. You wont regret it!

how about the 91 Honda civic Si hatchback... 1.6liters of "are we there yet power?" lol. reason I say that is my bro has a that car and he thought it was faster and quicker than my seven ... it was UNTIL I LET THE CLUTCH OUT and jumped ahead of him. I was already to 100 before he hit 60 :rlaugh: . So ya a convertable 7 IS faster than some SI's. But if you ask me... get a TII engine. Like he said... you won't regret it after second gear

totallimmortal 03-08-08 01:37 AM

Turbo is better but i'm in the 14s with a stock port NA. not to shabby

pnthr879 03-09-08 03:15 AM

wow nice I'm in the process of getting my NA rebuilt and I have similar mods minus the SAFC-II. Whats your exact time because i havent gotten to the track before the rebuild so I kind of want to know a ball park number

J.MurdaFCs3 03-09-08 04:10 AM

listen...

Guys!!! LIsten! Im on my four 7 and my first turbo. You'll save yourself alot of time and headache by getting a turbo II. all the upgrades make it worth it. suspension, brakes, interior, motor block, everything. I recommend you get a turbo and throw your money into that. Like I said, Within two shifts I was sold on A STOCK turbo II!

Got to admit the whole point of rx7's is to make 'em your project car, so I respect that. I just had a n/a as well and wanted to port it. Post pictures whatever you do

For a car in such good condition, just drive it. Enjoy a 'vert with a nice clean interior, smooth engine, etc. Take a girl out in it and don't be embarassed by a gasoline smell or a backfire or something.

you're better off getting a T2 in not so nice of shape and making it fast.
