~6mo after building this engine alone with the Atkins video on my parents' garage floor, all new hard/soft seals, rotor housings @~130K [I don't actually know, my friend gave me these because the old ones were thrashed 159K housings]

Also I had an aftermarket single cat, stock catback and a 1" gap between the manifold and the pipe.
[Hence, no chance of 5/6th...]

Also the stupid guy hit the rev limiter a couple times.. Scared me pretty bad.. lol

why take a s4 n/a to 7800? Even more so when 6pi doesnt work.

Derekcat 11-22-10 01:34 AM

Well when I'm running it hard I rev it to 7500.... Not sure what was wrong with the guy at Unnatural though.. They even had a max rev field on the signup sheet that I put either 7500 or 7000 in, but seems they didn't look :P

I need to throughly verify that the 5th/6th ports are working next time and then we'll know how worthwhile it is for it to rev past the line. ^_^

Um good stuff?

Derekcat 11-24-10 12:15 AM

lol yep.

I can point anyone who says stuff like "You can't go fast, you've got an S4!" to this thread and say "no no no, you can't go fast in an automatic S4 with nonfunctional 5/6th ports!"

Okay, the big question is why dyno this beast in the first place?

Derekcat 11-26-10 04:56 AM

lol... Just because it was a cheap dyno day [$35 for the 3 pulls], and I was curious. Oh, also because it was running a motor I built alone with no experience. [This is the reason I want to do it again with better exhaust and working 5th/6th ports]

I had seriously thought about taking the FB I'd just purchased over for it, but I didn't want to mess with switching the insurance over just for that. [at the time, the FB did feel faster.. It was a GSL with a stripped down interior]

eff_three_see_es 12-07-10 02:13 AM

not bad for an old na auto

funkjaw 12-07-10 02:06 PM

Yeah if there was a cheap dyno day around here I would probably take in my Dad's Geo Metro just for the heck of it.

Derekcat 12-07-10 04:39 PM

lol! That'd be great :D

Honestly I love seeing stock cars dyno because it gives everyone a good idea of how much they've gained with mods, and in your case, how much HP they started out with.

junito1 01-05-11 06:51 PM

yeah do get the "after" when you fix the 5/6 ports

Derekcat 01-12-11 06:09 AM

hehe yea. It's definitely much MUCH faster with the 5sp in it.

Since then I've gotten an RB collected header and presilencer along with a good condition stock catback.. So in theory I should have working 5th/6th ports [still have to test that]

Though there is an exhaust leak at the front of the presilencer: the studs were collapsing bad when I took the presilencer/y-pipe off to change the driveshaft and trans mounts a few weeks ago.. I was afraid to do any more than gingerly tighten them..

I'll try to remember to bring up the idea of a Dyno day for the next local meeting.
