Came close, but no cigar.

Well, I finally got the little toy to a dyno. This was a Mustang Dyno. I'm told the numbers are always lower on a Mustang. Here's what I got. 88 SE. Motor rebuilt by Banzai Racing with an agressive street port, Pineapple inserts, HKS header with 2-1/2" HKS racing exhaust, Cone inlet filter & TII drivetrain. My first run (#3) was without port actuation. 165 hp and 142 ft/lbs torque. Run 2 (#2)was with 5&6 port activation 182 hp and 144 ft/lbs torque. Run 3 (#1) we took it up to 7500 to see where the hp flattened out at. I was hoping for the magic 200 hp. but wont kick too much at 188.

Larry,
You need to get a S-AFC in there and clean up that AFRs, it is running too rich, dial out a little fuel and you will hit the 200 for sure. They are really nice numbers especially considering you are on the stock S4 ecu with no type of fuel management, good job.

how agressive is the street port? my firend and i have a Mazdatrix plate that we are going to port his motor with.

and what are the pineaple inserts??

we plan on running a setup like this but with 50-75shot of Nitrous and S5 (9.7 to 1 comp) rotors as well as an apexi safc II or neo.

i have a turbo car, but i love the way NA rotarys feel. ROCK ON!

Gear grinder, you would have to ask Chris Sanders at Banzai Racing about the specifics on the street port and the template he uses. As far as the pineapple inserts, they are mini ramps which fit inside the 5th & 6th port sleeves to improve the aerodynamics of the fuel charge. Here is a link.

ah, the 5 & 6 port sleeve inserts. I dont think were gonna get those, but the 75 shot of Nitrous should make up for it.

We're also planing on making a system for electronic servo 5 & 6th port activation, and posibly tunring it into a kit and selling it online.

Nice numbers on an N/A man great job! And HKS header? I love HKS parts, I have a very old duel exhaust system from them but I had no idea they made headers. Still great numbers man, gives us N/A guys some hope for the magic number :)

are you running stock s4 na rotors and intermediate plate? (i know its ported but was it from a 6 port motor or a t2? the reason i ask is supsedly the s4 t2 center housings have more room to port... )

junito1 10-16-08 03:28 PM

I would light a cigar all day on that one.

SOme people have turbos on their rotaries that make that same hp.

Without giving away the receipe for the secret sauce.....it is an S4 N/A intermediate iron, S5 N/A rotors, aggressive streetport, still holds a smooth 800 rpm idle too.

Very nice for an S4 NA.

I'm almost certain it was an HKS header. It's been at least 6-7 years since I put the HKS system on. Remember, I'm in Michigan. (no emissions to pass)

S4 NA rotors

I'm running S5 rotors, we had to replace all the irons and one housing. We used all NA stuff. I'm still using the 5&6 ports. I purposely ran the first dyno run without port activation just to see the difference. 164 vs 188 hp. I'd say they are working. I am activating them at 4500. I might change this up to 5000 to see how I like that. I'm using a MSD rpm control switch, so it's plug and play. Oh yeah, we also switche out the flywheel & counterweight for lighter S5 parts. A little quicker response.

Would that be a Cuban Cigar!

junito1 10-18-08 11:54 AM

Nah, I have much better than a cuban cigar. It starts with el cheapo cigar of choice. Quick split down the middle gives you plenty of room to put your own "tabacco" in there. Then it is hand rolled back like a cuban. heh

RotaryPicha 12-31-08 04:29 PM

gear grinder pm me if you make the eletrical 5th $ 6th port device.
