Numbers are STD corrected on a dyno jet on an 83 degree day, 42% humidity, almost at sea level. I'll have a plot tomorrow..want to get it from the shop instead of trying to take a picture of the print out as well as SAE numbers.

Silverfc88 05-03-11 12:19 AM

Great numbers!

Curious to know if your maxing out that AFM? I haven't heard of anybody running a 20b afm before

texFCturboII 05-03-11 12:23 AM

Nice! Do you mind educating me as to the benefits of the 20b AFM?

lastphaseofthis 05-03-11 08:32 AM

whats the responce like on that turbo? care to post an log? did you datalog the afm by chance?

K-Tune 05-03-11 10:23 AM

My AFM doesn't max out until right at around redline. The cosmo style AFMs can flow more CFM than the S5 design.

The response is decent, but it doesn't really come alive until after 4,500rpm.

Here's a log showing the AFM plot...

Going to try to get the dyno plot today to show my torque line.

Silverfc88 05-03-11 11:01 AM

Airflow 985 is the max my s4 afm shows as well. If the ECU is limited and if the afm is flowing more then I guess there would have to be just a slight adjustment in fuel compensation.

Is this on an S5 car? 4th gear pull on the dyno? Duty cycle on the injectors?

What is the size of the inlet and outlet on the 20b afm?

gxl90rx7 05-03-11 04:58 PM

curious as to what rpm you get 15psi by

K-Tune 05-03-11 05:19 PM

S4 car(its a 10thAE) 4th gear, max DC is around 65%. It makes the 15psi just before 4,000rpm.

The Cosmo AFMs(both 20B and 13B) are 2.25 inletx2.8 outlet(the inlet is around 1/8th inch larger, with the same outlet as an S5)

Also had the car weighed today.. 2540lb with a half tank of gas.

Very nice. I am confident that I can hit those numbers with a similar setup as well. Those are basically exactly my power goals.

bumpstart 05-04-11 06:05 AM

these knightys dont run the standard rear
,, they have a reverse thread nut and the tips at the major exducer are not as tall as the stock turbine wheel
they are also a 270 bearing CHRA with 7 blade compressor in the 55.5mm/71 mm range in a 0.6 to4b type cover

and as such would be something like a back-cut stage 3 highflow
with somewhere between a V and H compressor wheel in a 0.6 a/r cover with 45-50 lb/min at 1 bar boost

still that is a great result from a street car turbo that was always toted as 320 rwhp capable

RF320 has the new turbine wheel and is balanced whilst the S320 was a kit for you to highflow your stocky

K-Tune 05-04-11 09:41 AM

When I had to swap turbine housings my turbine wheel looked totally stock.

ColinShark 05-04-11 03:13 PM

Nice. I like that.

gxl90rx7 05-04-11 04:38 PM

if it was the stock wheel, it should spool a lot better than that. my buddy has a similar hybrid with completely stock wheel and he gets 15psi by like 2500. doesnt have as much top end though

K-Tune 05-04-11 04:54 PM

Below is a dyno comparison of the RF320 to a stock S5 turbo. Notice the torque curves and how they relate. The slight lag at the bottom of the chart is more likely from the added mass of the larger compressor wheel, not from a clipped turbine.

blue=stock turbo
red=rf320

The torque holds on longer because the larger compressor housing can provide more boost at higher RPM.

arghx 05-04-11 05:01 PM

the shape of the power and torque curves don't surprise me. You see that kind of thing on a lot of turbo engines with small-medium bolt on turbos. Basically there is wide mid range torque. The red curve above looks a bit like some dynos of FD's with non sequential twins. It's definitely plenty of power and torque to have fun in a light car, while still being controllable and streetable.

t

This is common on worn turbochargers, mine are squared off and the same length as stock.

dennis blackstone 05-04-11 05:47 PM

1 wonder if you can do that with 4 720s

Probably.

from 9mm to 3 mm? and then how do you explain the reverse thread nut?

read the translated japlish direct from knightsports
:: RF320 uses a NEW NOT OEM turbine shaft/wheel
s320 is the same front but on the stock rear
( sold as a compressor upgrade kit and intended to be installed without further balance )

and here are the pics
stock left,, RF320 right

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/9883/pic0505811.jpg
http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/7097/pic0505812.jpg

same 64/54 major and minor diameters,, same 11 blade profile DIFFERENT tip height at the major exducer
9mm v 3 mm
obviously the replacement turbine wheel is the equiv to a backcut as it allows more energy through the turbine cover without catching it

and here is the front wheel ( after a shaft shear ) next to a stocky
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4465/pic0505813.jpg
front wheel shares t04b V trim dimensions but is 7 blades and not 8

K-Tune 05-04-11 08:39 PM

Then mine appears to be an S320 upgraded turbocharger, as my turbine wheel is identical to stock(left picture)

sharingan 19 05-06-11 04:42 PM

very impressive!

I'm interested in how you wired up the 20b afm as I have been looking to get rid of the crappy s4. I was going to use an S5 but if the cosmo/20b is better, why not. So it looks like you made 260 whp on the stock turbo....was that on the 20b afm as well?

K-Tune 05-06-11 09:28 PM

the 20B afm has the same plug as an S5 and 13BRE afm.

267whp was made with an S4 Turbo AFM.

Thanks, however being that a 10ae has an s4 plug (as do I); knowing that the 20b plug is the same as the s5 is only really useful insofar as one knows how to wire the s5 plug to ther s4 harness.....

Just curious, what are your injector duty cycles?
