ls1 fd dyno

dynoed my ls1 powered fd last night to get some baseline #'s before i start tuning. it is an '01 ls1 with an underdrive pulley, custom cold air setup, ported tb, mild cam (tr 224), shortie headers(still a bottleneck) and emissions removed. car made 357 rwhp and 370 rwtq with the factory 6200 rpm redline (cam will make power up to 7k). very satified with the results considering i am just scratching the surface with this engine. if interested or a rotary purist that wants to vomit, you can check out pics of my car at http://groups.msn.com/turbogarrett , i will post some pics of the sheets up there because i don't have a working scanner......

Nice... maybe you should change your screen name now? :)

turbogarrett 08-25-04 05:27 PM

no, i still have a turbo on my gsx

Skeltah 08-25-04 05:29 PM

Yeah.. I just noticed that. How long has the LS1 been in your car for? Are you happy with the results?

KaiFD3S 08-25-04 05:34 PM

I'm not a fan of LS1 swaps but your look preety good, what is the weight difference now, how much did it add

turbogarrett 08-25-04 05:40 PM

it's been in the car for months, but on the road for almost a month. still have some stuff to finish -speedo, reverse lights, alignment etc. i don't regret the swap one bit, handling feels same as before, power is linear, torque is awesome.

i will be weighing the car soon and will post the results, unfortunately i never put the car on a scale when it was rotary powered for a comparison. it should be close to a stock 94 touring though.

Very good numbers, especially for baseline/untuned numbers..

who make the motor mount for the ls1 motor swap?did you buy it or you made it yourself?please let me know

BigIslandSevens 08-26-04 02:32 AM

you just made me rethink my Targa race car set-up:)

The ultimate of all worlds. Great looking, great handling, great power, and Awsome rliability. Stomp on it all day and not worry about a pesky o-ring going bad.

Don't get me wrong , i love the rotaries. I just don't like rebuilding every year;)

i got the mounting equipment from hinsonsupercars.com .

BigIslandSevens 08-27-04 12:30 AM

do you have any shots of the torque bar mounting? I am trying to find a pic of that. Does it replace the PPF? Thanks. And i will tell Hinson it was your car that got me to order the conversion kit;) ( next year:) )

turbogarrett 08-27-04 06:53 AM

yes the torque bar is basically the ppf, mounts from tranny to rear end. i'll take some pics next week when the car is up in the air for some suspension work.

BigIslandSevens 08-27-04 12:01 PM

cool thanks No real need for pics for me, now that I know that is what it was for. I just couldn't find an explanation description for it;)

Once you've seen one torque frame they are not that speacial right:D

If you have a pesky o-ring going bad every year for no reason its because it wasnt built right.

Yeah i know that. That was not really my point. I actually don't have that problem. Just that for the amount of romping you can do on a Ls1, and still know it will drive everyday. compared to a rotary therereally is no comparison. Let's face it we all know the rotaries are picky engines. GREAT engines just fickle like a hot women;)

A V8 is the ho you can ride all week long and put away wet, come back tomorrow and do it again:)

Still some respect and TLC needs to be given to any engine that is run hard. and i have no complaints about the 13B. I love it. It is also just teh fact that the type of racing I will be doing, the low end/constant power of the LS1 is better suited for my needs IMO. ( Since I don't care for th etwin set-up at all.) And that point can be argued to death as well so i am not looking for that debate;)

So again I completely agree with you stephen that if that were happening, it is do to improper building and cooling system set-up.

Also the Targa allows ANY modification to the vehicle as far as Engine, suspension etc... They will basically make a class for your car if there are none already:) Kinda of a cool way to set-up classes i think. Almost a "run what ya brung" mentallity.
