First time at the track.........

.....Was absolutley terrible. I have bridgestone potenza so-2's that were absolutley bald, and I missed 4th gear and shut it down about 1000 ft resulting in a 15.2. Talk about embarassing! The car is running really rich too. Rich enough that I have black soot on the exhaust after a couple of minutes of idling. Hopefully in the future I can learn to drive and not get my ass whipped by stock evo 8's. Anyone got any pointers besides getting new tires and getting a tune?? Oh yeah my trap was 75mph. And the car got really loose in 2nd gear too.

Mild streetport
Pfs full race exhaust(dp,mp,cb)
PFS smic
pettit intake
Power FC

Is 75C intake temps pretty high??

I was running stock boost. We only have 92 octane here in hawaii so I didnt want to push it too much. There is a gas station that sells 100,105 and 110 octane though. I would probably get about a half a tank or so and then turn up the boost.

4th gear? maybe you meant 3rd gear, you don't need to shift to 4th, 3rd is more than enough.
With the mods you got, low 13's were supposed to be hit.

iron4jones 07-01-05 04:00 PM

No I meant 4th gear. I was shifting at 7000 RPM

With a full exhaust and streetport, you should be shifting at 8k rpm in all gears...and yes, 75C is pretty high to be beating on the car.

And if you're not hitting 4th through the 1/4 mile, you ain't drivin' right. :)

You talking HRP?
Unless you're talking during a big race or right after that, you just can't do a 1 -> 2 shift at redline. :)
it's not surprising that you had problems in 2nd - the track is just too slippery to handle a redline shift into 2nd.
My car only did 250 at the wheels, but there is no way it'll hook 2nd at redline from 1st gear.

My band-aid fix is to short shift 1st -> 2nd.
I shift at 6,500RPM, and this solves all the traction problems in 2nd.

I dunno how you do a redline shift from 1st -> 2nd anyways, my car tends to scratch almost everytime. :(

Oh, I know this is the 3rd gen section - I do drive an FC. :P

WIth mods listed in my sig, I need to shift into 4th before the end of the 1/4. My best time was a 13.5@105, shifting at 8k rpm. This was also about 4 days after I purchased the car, and having traction problems with my crappy Kuhmo 712s. You definately need to shift into 4th ( unless you are trapping 75MPH :p: )

iron4jones 07-03-05 01:22 AM

Thats what I was thinking. How would I not shift into 4th?? I would be at like 12,000rpm in 3rd if i didnt. And yes HRP is one of the worst tracks ive ever been to. I shifted at about 7000 into all gears. Its funny you laugh at my 75mph trap cause my 1/8 and 1/4 trap are about 1 mph different due to my crappy driving. Yeah I guess the heat shield for my pettit intake wasnt on properly cause ive never seen my intake temps that high.

TwinTurbo93 07-06-05 11:05 AM

Yeah in some cases you need to shift to 4th I guess but once you shift you're done, you already hit the end of the 1/4 mile.

I usualy shift @ 8-8.2k rpm till I hit the rev limiter, so 4th gear is basicaly useless, and shifting to 4th is just to make sure you out of the 1/4 mile.

dohc-vtec_eg 07-06-05 11:16 AM

if u miss 4th its not that bad i think, u only have it on 4th for like 1-2secs and ur rollin at like 90+ mph. miss 4th i think u lose like .3 at most. well thats for my FD. i just got bolt-ons intake,mid/down pipe,N1 exhaust and ecu. usually at a 1/4 run all FD's should hit 4th unless u got no boost or garbage driver.
