First time to track

Like it says went out to the track for the first time last night, an needless to say my perfomance was less than stellar. I'll start off with my mods... fresh motor Bonez DP-hiflow combo and greddy PE cat back. Now I know those arent major modifications, but I was hoping atleast to get into the 13s, which didn't happen.
My best run of the night was my very first run down the track ever. It was something like 2.4 60' and 14.27 @ 101. That was my best ET and mph for the night, but I did cut a 2.2 60' about 2 runs later. That still just dosn't seem right to me.

So, am I just expecting too much out of the car, or is that about where it should be? I do probably need to work on my launching as I was spinning my Nitto NR 450s ( :/ ) through first and chirping the hell outa second. I was just dumping the clutch at about 3K, had those first time at the track nerves and didn't have the mind to try and slip it. Also the DA for the night was probably around 5500-5700 ft, which I always thought that wouldn't affect a FI car that much, but could that be part of the problem?

Just trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, or if in fact that is about where my car should be. So if ya'll have any advice, feel free to let me know. Thanks

Jeff

If you are dumping it and spining in first, your times are going to suffer in a major way. You must develop a very subtle technique for slipping just the right amount of clutch at 3,000 RPM to achieve contact with the road. I would advise practicing using this technique: Start at low rpms first. Maybe 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and finally 3000. Don't go up to the next level until you've found the right amount of slip without spinning the tires. It can be done. I've used this same training technique when I autocrossed with my FB. It took at least a second off my 0-60 times. Something else you might consider is the ACT lightweight competition clutch. I bought it with the car. One of my mechanics said it is the tightest, fastest pickup he's ever seen in a 7. There's a lot of other guys here who run with the ACT. Do a search.

PS: I'd advise practicing with the old clutch because you are likely to burn it up. Then put in the new ACT. Of course, you should have some money put aside for all of this because it isn't exactly cheap.

Are you saying that the altitiude was 5500ft? If so that will have an impact. Maybe 1/2 a second.

Next easy answer is slicks, trailing arms, diff brace, and a whole lot of practice on your lauch.
Good luck:)

If you ran a 14.2 at 101 then your car should be a 13 car easy with a decent launch. Looks like you played catch up to get that kinda mph with that et. I did the same thing back when mine was stock. 14.1 at 107 on stock tires. Just ease back off the gas and ease back in it and get a feel for the traction.

I was under the impression that altitude had no bearing on a turbocharged engine.

it doesnt affect boost pressure but it affects the air/fuel ratio

So in an FD trapping over 100 mph will mean youre in the 13s???

14.1 @ 107, funny i did 12.9 @ 108...whats up with that?

Oh, jcaldwell
Try shifting quicker, not lifting between shifts and do what the other guys said about slipping the clutch...practice! It looks easy enough but its not, is it? hehe
