Ok, I finally got my wheels. What size tire do I need to fit a 16x10 wheel? Where can I get the best price?
Taking suggestions ....

anywhere from 255 to 275 with 45 series profile up front or 40 series all the way around would be just fine I am assuming that is for your rear. Try www.victoriatire.com they really have great prices on all brands of tires.

What will you be using the car for and what is the offset of the wheel? These are quite important. Is it lowered, do you have adjustable spring perches?

Are you trying to keep the stock diameter? My car came with 205/55R16. If I were in the market for 10" wide wheels, I'd probably go for 275/40R16 or 285/40R16 to stay somewhat close to the original diameter.

The only thing that will fit 10 x 16s are Hoosier R3S03 in 275/45-16, but Hoosier has discontinued this size for 2002...275/45-16 is a bit tall at 25.4 inches (racing tires always shorter in overall tire diameter than road tires because road tires start with much more tread depth!).

Look above. That's exactly the dilemna that I was going to portray with the width wheel you selected. Getting O.E. O.D. in that width on a 16 is typically not available in street tires.

Are they purely for drag racing or for street also?

The fattest tires on a 16" wheel I've ever seen was 325/50R16 (Watanabe 16x12) on the back of a '70 Skyline GT-R at a gymkhana event in Japan. Damn they looked good. Good luck shoppping for those meats.
I didn't even think about the availability of tires in the size you'll be needing. Happy tire hunting. Post pics when you get those wheels on.

I need some new tires so what size should I run on my 93 stock 16" rims. The tires I want are the s03pp should I go 225-50-16 or 245-45-16. The guy at tire rack said that you can not put the 245-45-16 in the front is this true? He also said that if I run the 225-50-16 in front and 245-45-16 in back it will not handle well. Please help me out, I need new tires NOW. Can I run the 245-45 on all 4?

The new S-03 PP are on the wide side of most tire specs. It's best to try the stock 225/50-16s first for reassurance of positive fitment.

Wider tires in back will dial in more understeer.

The S-03 Pole Politions in 245/45-16 are more suited to 9-inch wide rim widths, such as what come stock on '86 to '89 Porsche 930 Turbo rear wheel fitments.

Go with the 225/50-16s...you'll be glad you did!

I run 245/45/16 all round toyo t1-s and it handles awesome

if your worried about width for the front get 235 fr and 245 or 255 rear, no point getting the same width tyre, u might as well upgrade

as for performance characteristics of having a wider tyre on the rear than the front, that will just induce a little understeer for our tail happy car ;)

Note that the T1-S is on the narrow side of the a 245/45-16, while the Bridgestones are on the wide side of 245/45-16.

There are no 235 or 255 16-inch diameters that I know of...

Our cars are only tail happy if you apply the throttle at the wrong moment...ie, you induce power oversteer...which is good if you know how to use it:)

You would likely be fine with 225s or 245s. 225s may very well give better performance in the turns, but 245s will help you put the power down a little better. I would get the same in all four corners so you can rotate them. 245s are pretty wide on the 8" rims, but it is hard to give up the extra rubber. No wait, I just looked at the prices and made up my mind -- save $100 and get the 225s.

S03s are great. Very sticky and they are the best tires in the rain that I have ever driven, including crappy touring tires. I couldn't believe how good they felt in the rain. Not the stiffest tire (which took some getting used to after the AVS Sports I was running), but the grip is outstanding. Braking performance is particularly impressive. I drive around and mash the brakes now because it stops so quick.

I've got the chance for some 16 x 8 rims, but I really want 16 x 7 so I can stick with 205 series tires.

You are running 16s, so to maintain stock wheel+tire diameter, you will need to run:

205/55 16
225/50 16
245/45 16

Most tire brands recommend 225 as the minimum width for a 8-inch wide wheel.

Even NA's need lotsa rubber! ;)

I found shopping for 16x8" rims the narrowest tire I could get was 225. Any thing smaller and the tire companies didn't recommend it.

Cool fellas, thanks for the info. The offset is +42 so with the 8" rim I was told I need to run spacers. Honestly, I don't like the idea of running spacers at all.

Any of you guys have any problems with spacers? I will be railling on this rim and tire combo and I don't want it to fail.

Smallest width on an 8" rim? I'd say 165 or 175. Lowriders do it, so it can't be wrong. :p:

Seriously, on a 16x8 rim, 225 isn't the narrowest or widest you can fit. It is the OPTIMUM width to use. a 225/50 would be as close to a 205/55 (stock size) as you can get for overall diameter. Don't go with 245's. Too wide. Check the manufacturers first. Not all 225 section width tires are truly 225mm wide. Some are wider/narrower than other tire models.

About the spacers. As long as your studs are long enough everything should be OK. But bear in mind some tracks and/or organizations do not want anybody running with spacers. Check first.

I'm going to get the SSR GT1, 17x8 front 17x9 rear. tirerack is recommending 235/45-17 and 265/40-17. I'm thinking 225/45-17 and 255/40-17 would be better. is there something special about the GT1 that would make their recommendation better? thanks.

I would first consider wider front wheels, like 8.5" or something. 235/40-17, 245/40-17, or even 255/40-17 can fit up there with 8.5-9" wheels. But 8"s and 9"s are not a bad setup. I just feel like I have to get some more tire if I am going to shell out a bunch of cash for wheels.

That said, I think both setups would work fine for those wheels. I would go with the 235/265 or 235/255 to maximize the amount of rubber.

yea, i figured wider is better, but i think that setup's rolling diameter difference with stock is greater than the other setup. thought i should stay closest to stock to avoid messing up the gear ratios.

This is WAY WAY overblown. Even w/ a 275/40 (25.6" diameter) your talking about a difference of a couple o' MPH @ 60 mph or so. Get the 265s.

For maximum results for the Tire Rack's sizes you'd need 8.5 and 9.5 x 17 for rim widths.
