17x9 all around, what size tire?
Does anybody run or know what size (brand) tire fits in the front on a 17x9 wheel with 40mm offset for an FD? Does a 17x9 wheel in the front even fit on there?
I want the same wheels and widest tire possible all around for best handling. Suspension is all stock. I was thinking on getting 245/40/17 all around or 255/40/17 if they fit. Another thing I was wondering: Are the stock wheels on the FD all around the exact same with same offset? thx |
You should be able to fit a 245/40 front and rear on that without rubbing, hopefully. I was just looking into this as well. SleepR1 helped me out with that yesterday.
That's size is due to the offset, a 255 will be too wide and rub on fender. Rishie |

Try 8.5 x 17 all around with the 40-mm offsets using 245/40-17 tires all around. Shouldn't be a problem clearance-wise. Rishie can hook you up with a set of sweet Volk SE37Ks! 245s provide plenty of contact patch for public road carving!

The only way to run 9 x 17 with 255/40-17s all around without worrying with front end clearance problems is to use 51-mm offsets like Johnny Moderator BLING BLING is using with his Kinesis/2.5-inch coil-over setup. Tire Rack has 45-mm offset 9 x 17 SSR Integral A2s (killer deal for $289 each). Their official position for that size is REAR FITMENT ONLY. IMHO, you could probably get by, but there are no guarantees that you won't rub. This is why I'm leaving my 8 x 16 SSR Int A2, 38 mm offset/225-50-16s up front and moving to wider tires in back with 9 x 17, 45 mm offset/255-40-17s for my road setup. Absolutely no worries with rubbing, and neutral handling balance should remain intact. |
Would it be better to go 245/45 instead...I have stock R1 suspension but do plan on getting coilovers in the future.

Still no guarantee that size won't rub either. 8.5 x 17, 40-mm offset with 245/40-17 will work fine. Don't push the clearance issue. You'll just be sorry you did that! Rishie has that fitment in Volk SE/TE-37s, if you're looking for a deal on Volks. |
I actually got Volks from Rishie a while back in the size stated above. Looking to sell them/keep them ...can't make up my mind.

Thanks, you are the tire size god. The 245/40-17 would be better with a load index of 91 (1356 lbs) compared with the stock load index of 92 (1389 lbs). That's close enough, IMHO. I guess if you're just cruising at 45 mph in a straight line, with a very light passenger, you'll be ok with 235/40-17...but I wouldn't do a high speed driver's school at Sebring with 235/40-17s all around! If I were in your position. I'd buy the 245/40-17s all around for the 9 x 17, 41 mm offsets, and take appropriate precautions to minimize tire rubbing. That would be: rolling the front fender rim lips, removing the LF-fender liner bolt, and creeping up driveway curbs very, very slowly when you have to enter the driveway with your wheel cranked to the left! |

Will I run into fitment issues?
Okay I have been searching around all night and I need someone to tell it to me straight. Can I fit 255-40s on a 17x9 inch rim with a +40 offset? I have seen all this talk about rubbing and such, and I am willing to do SOME modification to get this to fit but not to extreme. Also I have Eibach Pro Kit springs I believe (they were on the car when I got it, if anyone has the same set they are a light blue color with a sig on them)

You'll probably rub...you could try -2 degrees of negative camber...you could try 245/40-17 tires. I have no rubbing with 45-mm, 9 x 17s using 255/40-17s...

Are you talking about in the front or back? I found some very cheap 17x9 wheels with only +40 available. I was thinking 245 40s in front and 255 40 in back... what do you think the tire will rub on? Is it something I could roll or remove?

Also, will they only rub during hard driving? because I dont drive my FD that bad and I always hit driveways with straight wheels going at an angle, slowly because my front lip.

17x8.5 Fikse FM5's, +45 offset. I'm looking at tires, and the Fikse rep recommended 235/45, but I'm thinking of going with 255/40 or 255/45. The rears already have tires--17x10 with 275/40s. Thanks guys-- |

I'm looking at Yoko AVS Intermediates in the front in 255/40--can I run these? They're not available in 245/40s... |
You can if the offset is a +45, just don't know if it's reccommended.

if your car is lowered you must have some pretty stiff front springs atleast 550 to be safe if your going with the 255's up front or they will rub the top and sides of your lining especially if you do any track events. Rishie gave me a good deal on some fm10 17 x 9 on each corner and I mounted 255 40's and they did rub a bit and when cornering hard they will not only rub but pull down your fender edges. So if you go with the 255's up front be sure to have a stiff height adj set up. Don't you just love those FIKSE's :) When I got mine I couldn't decide if I should mount them over the fireplace or on my car. |
my buddy is running 255/40/17 all the way around his car. Roll those fenders and by some suspension and should have NO problems..

255/40-17 on 8.5 x 17 will fit. The 8.5-inch width is Yokohama's "spec" rim used to generate the dimensional data in Tire Rack's spec sheets. The 45-mm Fikse wheel offset will be FINE!

Test Fit: 18,9 +40 245/35/18 on FD
Hello Gentlemen,
We did a test fitment on Neevosh's FD the other day. To our surprise it looked as if there would be no clearance issues with the 245/35/18 on the Gram lights or Volk Racing 18,9 +40 fitment. Just a heads up. Looks like we got ourselves another fitment. So let's see who is gonna be the first to get it. hehe. J/K. This one is mine. hehe. "ARD fitment". Also test fitted the GLs in 18,10 +38 with the 285/30/18. It looks like it will work once you roll the rear fender lip. So that's good to know as well.
