FD3S Wheel Fitment Guide

Figured this would make things easier for Manny and myself. Hopefully this will be rated and archived.

Many of these are street and track proven by both SleepR1 and myself. All decisions based on these recommended fitments are taken at your own risk. In no way can we assess whether or not your suspension has been damaged or bent in someway. These have worked for us and that's all we are here to share. Please brighten Manny's day by showing your appreciation here.

TIA,
Rishie

FD3S; Rear fitments are arbitrary. All limitations are based on maximum front wheel width. Unless stated fitments are done with O.E. diameter springs.

17,8.5 +40 with 245/40 front; ARD Volk fitment w/Pzeros

17,9 +45 with 245/40 or 255/40 front; MANNY's PRIDE AND JOY. hehe.

18,9 +45 - +50; 245/35 or 255/35 front
18,10 +50 285/30 rear; JOHHNY SPECIAL

18,10 +50 with 2.5" springs, COOPER RECIPE/CCW, 285/30/18 front and rear. I repear 2.5" SPRINGS.

You've been rated :)

Good idea!

Rishie...

Works for me:)

My road setup of SSR IA2 9 x 17, 45-mm offsets with 255/40-17 Yokohama AVS I's have been a stellar fitment, as they also work very well on the road racing circuit, when I'm too lazy to swap to race tires and brake pads:)

My track-only asymmetric wheel/tire setup works very well when I'm trying to shoot for the lowest possible laptime or wanting to whoop-ass on some Porsche 993/996 Carreras:)

SSR Comp 8.5 x 17, 42-mm offset with 245/45-17 Hoosier R3S03 Fronts
SSR Comp 9.5 x 17, 42-mm offset with 275/40-17 Hoosier R3S03 Rears

No rubbing at all. Note that Hoosier R3S03s have a shorter overall diameter than a normal road tire, as those sizes are usually 25.7 inches in OD as opposed to Hoosiers' 25.3 inches.

Handling is slightly moderate understeer with 30 psi cold fronts and 35 psi cold rears.

Also Max Cooper's road setup is:

Volk SE37K 8.5 x 17, 40-mm offset, 245/40-17 S-03
Volk SE37K 9.5 x 17, 40-mm offset, 265/40-17 S-03

He has no rubbing either, and likes the handling. Max needs the wide rear contact patches to hook up his massive horsepower to the ground!

Good idea....is it a sticky yet..

might need 2.5" for the Johnny special if you are running 50mm offsets in the fron t too :)

HedgeHog 05-18-02 11:49 AM

How about adding my recent observations.

255/40-17 on 17x9 - 45mm. 2.25" springs. Ride Height (ground to top of wheel wheel): 26" Mazdaspeed GT-C front bumper. Tire rubs on the lower wheel skirt/lip of the front bumper (I have rubber marks all over it).

ARD T2 05-18-02 12:43 PM

Great idea Hedge. We should collect data on any rubbing problems due to upgraded aero kits.

Johnny, I just ordered your special from Fikse and spoke to Allen about reccommended offset for the front with a 9" width. He replied with +50 working fine on stock suspension. I think I'll ask him again or I'll see you at the BBQ tommorrow and hopefully take a look at your fitment. See ya manana.

Thanks, Rishie

Wow, that was quick for rating. thanks guys. I'm sure we can all benefit from this and the title should be one that's easy to search, "FD3S Wheel fitment". I mean that's gotta be the first thing I'd type in.

Rishie, Just wondering if you can get me the stickers that go on the SSR comp wheels. I bought set from Frank Tsai (whom bought from you) but there are no logos on the wheels??? Thanks, Mike

Hey Richie,

If HedgeHog is rubbing with 255/40-17's on 17x9's (+45) and the top of his wheel well is 26" then I will probably rub worse with same size tires on 17x9's (+43) since my car is lower (25 1/8"). Maybe I should run 235/40's up front and 255/40's on rear?

Waiting for your PM.

Marc

Mike,

IMO, if you're running the Comps on the road, I think the wheels look better WITHOUT the decals. For my road racing SSR Comps, the decals do add a special touch, since product decals are the norm on road racing track cars:)

FWIW, you can probably order an SSR Comp decal set from Tire Rack?

Great topic

powermalex 12-24-02 12:42 AM

What about max fitment for FC?

powermalex 12-24-02 12:44 AM

ARD T2 PM me with Paypal info to order HR spacers.

JUst for review. I am installing FD wheels with 245/45/16 tires on FC.

Alex
