Yokohama AVS ES100 vs. Dunlop SP Sport 8000
 

Any opinions on these two tires, guys?

I'm currently running the Dunlops and they've been great - other than wearing out just shy of 20K miles and being a nail magnet. ;)

I think the Yoko AVS ES100s are a comparable tire as far as price and the scores on Tire Rack are better than the SP Sport 8000s, FWIW.

If you're running the Yokos, how long have they lasted?

Also, I have a S5 TII with stock 7" rims (205/55ZR16 tires). Somebody else on the forum said I can run 225/50's or even 225/45's... what's the Pros/Cons of running a wider-than-stock tire on stock wheels?

Do the sidewalls bulge?

I've read from posters that the ES100s are GREAT TIREs. I don't have a set myself. I have the old tried-and-tested AVS Intermediates 255/40-17s. Apparently the ES100s are the AVS I's replacements?

ok ok I have 1k more miles on them and a bit more drive time. Now instead of mildly disliking them...I hate them. I'm wondering if they are drift tires or what. I can not keep them from spinning. I cant push the cornering limits as they break loose too soon. I suppose I need to let manny drive my car as he really knows tires/wheel setups and will provide an unbiased review. Course now you'd laugh at my grossly underpowered put put car.. lol

Well, give them a chance. The weather's been crappy around here. You might change your mind with the first spring day :) Oh, yes...the new beastie kicks ass at the low 0.75 bar (~11 psi) boost setting. I haven't turned up the boost to 0.85 bar (~12.3 psi) yet...waiting until the weather warms up. Come on up to Putnam Park March 22, and we'll run those tires in for a few laps during a hot track session. We'll see what your car's got to give those ES100s (hee hee) ;)

cold pavement is in the back of my mind as well....we shall see what some heat does to these things. But, I absolutely love my dunlop sp5000 sports!! now they are on an audi quatrro.... but they are all around good tires. Too bad the old nag is making me say good bye to the audi this weekend. :( I have to drive to chicago to deliver it...I feel like a dead man walking.

I guess its the price to pay for owning an fd...course now maybe I can do SleepR1 mod to my motor...how to sneak that under her nose lol.

Sp8000's are the hardest poorest performing sport tire I have ever used. Only competition for it in the worst perfromance category is the Yoko AVS Sports.

Of course it all depends on what you are used to. I love the Yoko AVS dB's on my 4-door daily driver, great stick wet or dry, and whisper quiet. Grip way better than the original Firestones.

IF you want grip on an FD in a street tire you cannot beat the S03's unless you want r compound such as A032R (what I run today, loud as hell). If someone has found better than the S03's with relative little tire noise PM cause I want a set.
