Yokohama AVS ES100.. What do you think?
 

Looking at new tires on the tire rack. The Yokohama AVS ES100 came up. $99 each for 245/45/16.

I'm looking for something that will handle well, and not make too much noise (like my Bridgestone 730s). I'm not going to drive fast in the rain, so a good rain tire isn't a high priority. I might autocross a couple of times a year. I would also like to get at least 15k out of them.

Does anyone have an opinion on this tire, or another reasonably priced tire that will suit my needs?

Hands down best for the $$ in my opinion.

I run 205/45-16 on all 4 corners.. Very impressed.

How about noise compared to your last tires?

I run these tires on my FD too. Good grip in the corners and pretty cheap in price too. :) Oh, and not noisy at all.

well, there is no noticable noise increase of the Toyo Proxie H4 that I had on there before...

It doesn't really matter though, mostly all I hear is the RB exhaust. :blue

I searched for noise and performance and it was between the yokos and dunlop sp8000. I have the dunlop 5000 on my other car and love em---replaced falken pieces of crap but thats another story.....I chose the yokos because they have a better tread life rating than the dunlops 8000, and were instock at local tire center, and were cheaper than the dunlops. I see no noticeable difference in handling than with my dunlop 5000 which are all season touring tire. I expected ultra high performance to be noticeably different considering they are summer only. They have a noticeable wha wha wha between 65 and 75 where I do most of my driving. Although I would bet that it was not as loud as your bridgestones at any speed and no where near as loud as the falkens. It levels out at 85. I also get a lot of vibration between 60 and 70. i have been back to the shop several times to question the vibration and balance is good. I finally broke down and called yoko who gave me 2 pieces of info #1 the tires need to be broken in for a "few" miles and the vibration will die down---I'm still working on that after 1k miles. #2 they must heat up before they work properly. although I expected this to some degree it seems that my daily driving is insufficient to adequately warm up the tires so they will quiet down and stop vibrating. We will see what the summer pavement brings. The long and short of it is that my dunlop 5000 have none of these issues for similar performance and similar price and all seasonability. The dunlop 8000 is the same tire without the all season tread and stiffer sidewalls for more cornering. I would say that the tires are a good value provided they last for more than 15k and that I am pleased with the performance vs price. But the dunlops offer all the benefit without the drawbacks. good luck pm if you want more info. cya

The AVS ES100 is the replacement for the old AVS Intermediate, a tire known for it dry weather grip and yet still useable in the rain.
I wish I had gone with the es100's instead of the Pirelli P-7000s (but w/ a family hook-up the price was right) the Pirelli's are MUCH louder on the Highway than my old Yokos were.

I had the AVS intermediates on my 82 GSL. They were a good tire as far as I was concerned.

To me mileage and road noise are of no concern. I don't drive enough miles for tires to ever wear out "normally". Autocrosses, lapping days, and driving like a bonehead kill my tires. My car is plenty loud to drown out tire drone on the highway. Price and performance are the points that are important to me. Once I use up my AVS Int. I'll look into these tires very seriously. Especially if Falken doesn't start bringing the 225/50R16 over here for the Azenis lineup.

hmm... sounds like the ES100's are pretty good... mines came in the mail today, although i wasn't home... i got some 215/60/15 for my 15x7 rims on my TII

My Bridgestone 730s are so loud that I thought I had a bad wheel bearing. I would much rather hear the exhaust or stereo. Or both!!

I am with you Jerk Racer on the Falkens but alas I e-mailed them already. They said that they were not planning on extending the Azeni line. Financial reasons.
They seemed really cool though about it.

How about it compare with the Parada Spec-2? Which one is better?

I've got them running 275/35/18 and 235/40/18 and they're great. No problems with vibration at all. Nice and quiet too. Since it's winter now, you do notice a slight loss in grip if they're not warmed up, but that's probably true with other tires too.

I love my set, 195-50-15's on 15x6 wheels. They are awesome for my FB, great grip wet or dry. No chance at all in snow though, but luckily I kept the shitty old snow tires and my stock rims for winter.

If that's the case, then I would recommend the ES100's. I'm very satisfied with the AVS Intermediates as replacements for my BFG KDW's. The AVSi's are pretty sticky (not Azenis sticky, but up there) and not terrible on the road noise. If the ES100 is anything like the AVSi's, then I would bet that they'll be a great buy at $99/each.

AVS I's best damned $104-tire (in 255/40-17) I've ever had (still have 'em)! Too bad Tire Rack is tapped out in my size...shoulda stock-piled those muthas. Quietest tire I've ever had too! Stick very well on track, and decent wet traction...Highly recommended, if you can find them!

anyone have any experience with these tires? Im gonna put a set on my FC, just looking for some feedback. Ive gone through 2 sets of shitty Dunlop SP's in the past 16,000 miles, I want to get a real good tire this time and these look nice.

I was one of the first to run the ES100's I'm on my second set. They are on my WRX 235/40-17($99)and are a great tire for the money. As far as dunlaps they were the worst tire I ever had wont but them again.

this is why we mods ask folks to do a search before posting a new thread :) No problem, I merged the two threads...

I'm convinced. When it's time, the Yoko will be the tire.
